Foreign Relationships

Aldeyth currently maintains a defensive pact with Ruathym, across the Shattered Cove. It is an alliance that has been called upon several times since the founding of Aldeyth, but not so much in the last century. Almost every instance that Aldeyth has called on Ruathym for aid has been in response to a show of force from their neighbors to the south, Gilder. They also maintain a trade alliance with Dungar to the north across the Sea of Storms.   While in recent history dealings between Gilder and Aldeyth have been more...civil...if you were to ask an Aldeian for their opinion of a Gildean most would not be shy about expressing their superiority over their neighbors to the south. The fact is, Aldeians and Gildeans disagree on most things, from government to self expression, yet they still manage trade between the two nations.

History

Many battles have been waged between Aldeyth and Gilder through the centuries since each nation was founded, yet no formal war has ever been declared from either side. Conflicts have almost always been over boundary lines; Gilder maintains two sizeable mines on their side of the Shattered Peaks and they want to expand their operations into areas of the mountains on Aldeyth's side of the border. Since the coal and minerals mined from these sites are the primary export of Gilder, it is understandable how they get heated over such dealings; especially when you consider that Aldeyth does not mine the range at all.   Despite these skirmishes, the nations have agreed to the current borders as they stand effectively splitting the Shatter Peaks down the middle. And though they may hold each other in slight contempt, they are civil enough to maintain a stead trade relationship...for now.
