The Blazing Faith
The Blazing Faith is a loose religion founded in the belief that fire is inherently divine and responsible for life on Athoria. Many who practice the faith ensure they always have a good supply of fire wood, candles and a well heated home for comfort from the dark and cold is the most important tenant of the faith.
The follow a guide written during the Divine age know as a the "Veritas Locutus" known as the Spoken Truth to those who follow the faith. It was a series of guidances given by one of the Founding members of the Faith on how best to embrace the flames and aid those in need.
Structure
There is no real organisation to the Faith, just a lose collective of believers. If enough followers gather in one place, they are likely to be led by a head Priest with experience in using fire magic and showing the true strength of flames.
Public Agenda
The Blazing Faith's goal is to simply live in a way that respects fire, the source of life in their eyes. One of the main teachings of the faith is no one should be left in the cold, so followers are encouraged to house and take care of others to ensure no one is left outside at night.
Divine Origins
The Blazing Faith had humble origins. When a Rift to the Realm of Seasons during an already bitter winter increased the snow and cold on a small local town, the townsfolk nearly sucumbing to the bitter cold. Snowed in with lost access to their tools to start a fire. Only one small candle was found which could light a new one. This candle was passed from house to house to light the fires and camp fires to keep the people warm.
This candle seemed to continue to burn longer than it should have, the candle flame burning for days on end to keep the wood fires of the town alive. Once the winter passed, the people there found a new respect for fire and its life giving abilities. Along with the almost mythical ability of the candle to withstand the cold and burn as long as it did, this grew into a more devouted following.
Tenets of Faith
There are few strict tenants for the followers of The Blazing Faith, but there are some regularly followed beliefs:
1. No one should be left in the cold - Share the Warmth of your flame with those who need it
2. Keep a flame lit in your home - The Longer a flame last, the stronger it becomes
3. Maintain the tools required to maintain a fire - Be ready to create fire to comfort those in need, yet also to ensure control
Priesthood
There is no offical Preisthood within the Faith, but instead wandering practitioners who spread the teachings along with blessings. To achieve divine powers, those who are faithful embark on a Pilgrimage known as the Rite of First Flame. This Pilgrimage involves travelling to the Realm of Fire to capture some of the purest fire possible, then travel the world spreading pieces of the captured flame to fellow followers.
The purer the flame taken and longer the Pilgrimage takes, the greater divine power a Practitioner of the Blazing Faith can gain, some even being able to rival the divine powers granted by the Ashen Host.
