Saint Lyra

Lyra Dellenis was born a daughter to metallurgists in a small town south of Idelyon. From a young age she was expected to learn her family profession and studied under them until her late teens when word came of a fiend from another realm appearing in the nearby area. Drawn in by a quest to avenge her slain brother when a rift had opened in her youth, she disobeyed her family's wishes and set off to help a former Rift Hunter slay the creature. While it turned out to be a different fiend to the one she sought, the thrill of the fight spurred her to continue freelance heroics of this type.   Her early adulthood saw her joining with a Soul Binder and former Hunter to hunt freelance beasts and cross realm monsters, growing in skill and local fame. It was also during these early days it is said she noted how when blood mingled with metal it seemed to repulse creatures from other realms. This was put to the test when she encountered the fiend she had been hunting, and in a quest for vengeance attacked with haste and lost her right arm to the creature before it fled.   For most people this would have ended their career as a monster hunter. For Lyra it was an opportunity. Using her knowledge of metallurgy and her allies soul binding magic, she created a prosthetic blade arm in place of her lost arm. With her new weapon she sought the fiend who had now not only caused her pain twice but had been terrorizing eastern Ithirion, earning it the name of Rend the Untouchable.   Rend's Reputation was due to the fact no blade or spell seemed able to pierce its hide. Thus when Lyra and Rend faced each other again, it was before the city of Ideylon where it had been raging against the cities defences and slaughtering the guards without fear. And yet Lyra's blade pierces its hide and heart, slaying the dreaded creature in a single strike. For this act of slaying the unslayable, several put her forward for Sainthood, although it was not until later that she was granted the title.   In the wake of her defence of Ideylon, several people started showing interest in her combination of metallurgy and haemonamcy to which she took up a role of mentor and teacher along with researcher. Several skilled mages joined her and eventually a small organisation had begun to form around her, furthering development into weaponizing metallurgy to defend the realm. These contributions to the protection of Ithirion caused the voting council to opt in favour after a few years to grant her the Title of Saint in 227 DE.   With an official Title, the Order of Saint Lyra was officially recognised the following year as a defensive group who could further research into the advanced metallurgy properties Lyra had discovered during her life. Blackstone Keep was granted to Lyra and the Order after ridding it of a Rift that had opened beneath the keep and killed most of its former inhabitants. From there, they formed a true base of operations to further their research and skills.   Lyra remained a steadfast warrior, often using the research The Order uncovered on herself to remain in fighting shape until 263 DE at the age of 63 when she suffered a blighted touch from an undead creature from the Realm of Death. Too late to cure the affliction, Lyra passed in Blackstone Keep with her faithful who interred her below the Keep. Her Original Prosthetic arm is still displayed above her tomb for Pilgrims of the Faithful to visit and witness.
