Battle of the Veiled Plains
The Battle of the Veiled Plains occurred 7 years before the current date and was one of the most brutal rift invasions since the Rift Era. The region of the Veiled Plains came under attack from a massive rift to the Abyssal Waste, spilling forth legions of Demons and Devils both. The Rift Hunters of Ithirion were the first to respond, but were hard pressed with their numbers to hold back to hordes of Infernal Creatures.
The Battle was led by the Everburning Queen, a devil who seemed able to control demons and devils both as she commanded the legions from the portal. With her organisation of the normally chaotic and rampaging demons, the battle soon turned in the devil's favor. The Red Company and Army of Velinshad were both called into combat to strike back against the growing army of fiends.
This still was not enough however and the tide only turned when The Order of Saint Lyra arrived. Their enhanced forces managed to push the Demon Army back to the Rift allowing it to be sealed. This helped with cementing their reputation as a skilled orgnisation who can close Rifts others cannot. However, most do not recall that the Order were not the ones to seal the rift itself, that was a feat performed by the loss of several Rift Hunters using the opening given and seal the rift from within.
The Conflict
Battlefield
The rift opened in a farmstead in the Veiled Plains, and soon began spilling out into the nearby towns and villages. The battles took place in the burnt out ruins of these towns but more so over the pillages farmlands. The Rift Hunters arrived first to hold the worst of the army as it was ammasing. However they were soon becoming overun as the army grew in size..
With the arrival of the Red Company and Army of Velinshad, a group of Rift Hunters slipped into the Rift to try and seal it but became locked in a battle with the Everburning Queen and her direct followers. They were not reported slain or victorious before the Rift was sealed, leaving their fate unknown.
Once the Order of Saint Lyra arrived, they began slaying the remaining demons and devils and pushing the hordes back to the Rift. The were able to use Rift Sealers to close the rift while the Red Company and Army of Velinshad were able to clear up the straggling demonic forces.
Outcome
During the battle, the fields and towns of Veiled Plains were scorched. The soil there is still burnt and charred to this day, leaving the once fertile land's unable to form new settlements. There are also lingering fiendish threats left behind from the war still hiding in the ruins, making the area hostile to those who do not take care.
The area has since become known as "Flame's Kiss" for the firey destruction wrought upon it and the Burning Kiss the Everburning Queen would inflict upon her victims.
Aftermath
The Battle shifted the view of Rift Hunters and The Order of Saint Lyra further into the extremes. Rift hunters lost some of their already dwindling reputation after failing to be able to seal the rift and stop the invading fiends. While the Order was seen as heros for their ability to step in where others had failed with their disciplined techniques to seal the rift.
The Order now attracts more people who would have once sought to help against the threat of the rifts who may have once joined the Rift Hunters. This has caused the general populace to turn more toward The Order for protection over the old ways of the Rift Hunters.
