Selûne
Selûne is the goddess of the moon, which exists as her physical embodiment within the night sky. She was born as her mother, Umbra, tore the last shreds of goodness from her body and flung them into the heavens which brought life to Selûne. It was not just the good that was cast asunder, however, but shreds of Umbra's own evil. Thus Selûne embodies the perfect balance of light and dark, good and evil, and thus is worshipped by monks as the perfect equilibrium.
Due to her innate connection to Umbra and acting as a foil to her realm of subterfuge, Selûne's piercing gaze sees through her mother's trickery and strips away the deceitful facade of shape changers, thus reverting them into their natural forms.
Every night, she makes battle with her mother, Umbra, whose selfish greed drives her to claim the sky for herself and cast the prime material plane in eternal darkness. The two engage in a bloody brawl, ending only with the rise of the sun at the behest of Dol Arrah. However, every new moon, Selûne is slain by her mother as the moon vanishes from sight. Worshippers of Selûne spend the night praying and making offerings to grant her strength, thus ensuring her revival the next night. The gruesome cycle then continues.
Eons ago, she fell in love with Dol Arrah, the goddess of the sun, but their paths never crossed and she couldn't abandon her post of guarding the night sky. Selûne tore part of her body asunder and cast it into the sky, creating the moon known as Selûne's Kiss which is visible during the day. Thus, she is able to spend time with her consort whilst remaining a staunch protector.
