Quinn Jassan

Quinn is a nerdy previously human, recently kenku, scholar with a love for history, which he is currently studying at the college in Neverwinter.

History

Quinn was born human, to human parents, in the outskirts of Luskan. For most of his life he worked on their farm, doing menial work that he found tiring and dull. His only respite was the local library, a dingy affair that held a few dozen tattered novels, the contents of which he voraciously read and re-read. He had a sharp mind that easily retained information and he developed a great interest in history.   When he came of age, he managed to convince his parents to let him move to Neverwinter and attend their college. They were unhappy to lose their farmhand, but tempted by the promise of coin earned by scholars. They gave him a meagre allowance, he took the family cat, Mr Snuggles, as company, and he went on his way.   He enrolled to study history and, tirelessly devoted to his reading and studies, found himself at the top of all his classes. For three years he remained in that position, becoming the object of jealousy for many of his classmates.   Towards the end of his studies, he decided to write a paper on a contentious historical issue, stating that the fabled fortune of Fanacost was a mere myth with no solid evidence to prove its existence. His scholarly rival, a dragonborn named Thalasa Flametongue, was writing a paper on why the fortune did exist. Quinn’s paper was accepted by the school board for being an interesting think piece and was set to be published in place of Thalasa’s. The two got into a heated argument, which resulted in Quinn losing his temper and attempting to polymorph Thalasa into a bird. The spell backfired, however, and polymorphed Quinn into a kenku. He fled to his dorm room and, out of shame, decided that he needed to take a short vacation in search of a cure.   He travelled for a few days, his newly feathered body hidden beneath a long cloak, fervently reading books he had taken with him about polymorphing in the hopes he could learn how to change himself back. After a few weeks of dingy taverns, being mugged and terrible weather, he caught wind of a druid called Reidoth living in the ruins of Thundertree who might be able to change him back. He visited the man, who told him he would need to fork over a couple of hundred gold and some interesting magical artefacts to make it worth his while. Quinn, completely penniless and not willing to stoop to stealing, decided to set out in search of the treasures of Fanacost, the existence of which he had so vehemently denied in his paper. He recruited a band of kenku who were harassing a village, tempted them with the promise of untold riches, and they set out for Fanacost. For a month, they worked fruitlessly to clear the dungeon and attempt to get to the treasure.   With the arrival of the far more capable party, Quinn requested their help in getting through the dungeon and they were successful. After getting the druids requested items, he went to get the polymorph spell reversed, but Reidoth had disappeared.   Quinn returned to Neverwinter, shocking students and teachers alike with his new feathery form, but decided to stay as a kenku. He threw away his paper denying the existence of the dungeon and gave his rival a firsthand account of the dungeon so that she could continue with her own scholarly paper.   He is currently devoting his time to studying the kenku, their behaviour, mannerisms and language. Some students have been treating him poorly, leaving dead birds by his door, flicking pieces of parchment scrawled with insults at him in class, and whispering about him in the corridors, but he's trying to remain positive. He hasn't yet told his parents about his bizarre change in race.

Appearance

Quinn is short in stature and covered in sleek, black feathers. He has dark beady eyes and a beak. His feet are avian and have talons. He wears a scholarly robe and always carries a book bag slung over his shoulder. He carries no weapons and possesses incredibly subpar magical abilities. His voice is nasally and he sounds like a nerd.
