Yamelith

Yamelith (meaining "dream stone" in ancient Isarian) became the capital of Isaria when the regime chnged from the Taishō clan to the Heisei.  This change is traditional with any change in leadership, but the Taishō have taken particular umbrage, which has caused no small degree of tension.  Inter-clan warfare has been happening across the kingdom, and the violence has spilled over into the streets of Yamelith several times, threatening to destroy its peace.  For years, Yamelith was a religious center with many stone temples devoted to the Old Gods and the new pantheon. Several monastic orders and orders militant made their home in Yamelith once the Astruian mining camps were shut down. These groups help maintain the peace and serve as a town guard of sorts.

Demographics

Yamelith is one of the more diverse cities next to Kawalith.  There is a good mix of multiple races, not the least of which because the city sits on a major overland trade route:
  1. Humans--70%
  2. Dwarves--15%
  3. Dragonborn 7%
  4. Elves--6%
  5. Half-elves--1%
There is a smattering of other racial groups, but none that would make a significant statisical marking.  Gnomes, halflings, and tieflings tend to be transient nomadic groups.

Government

The Shichō, or High Counselor, manages most of the day to day city functions. There is also a city council made of of prominent figures int he community and local guild leaders. Since Yamelith is the current seat of power, the Shogun or the king/Lord Paramount can be called upon for arbitration in extreme circumstances.

Infrastructure

Since the city is perched in hilly terrain with a river running through it, the city has no shortage of fresh water. In addition, the river water is shunted through canals to fasciliate travel and to flush out the sewer system. This helps keep the city clean and relatively free of disease. Aquaducts from the upper hills bring in additional water reserves that help irrigate the terraced farms scattered about the city in the farm district and the outskirts. The main streets are paved and well-maintained while the side streets, though dirt, are kept clean and free of debris with paving stones to help keep people out of the mud during storms.

Districts

  • Terrace District--Also know as the "farm distrcit", this is where a good deal of the local food is grown. Cut into the side of hills, the terraced farms make effciient use of the land, and the farms are supplied by the local river and aquaducts.
  • River Docks--this distict is unique in that it is occupies both sides of the river and nearly runs the length of the city.  As such, all travel, trader, and customs is managed here.  All of the local markets are here along with a good number of warehouses and local guard precincts.
  •  Royal Demesne--Every city Isaria has a feudal compund that houses the ruling clan.  It is built like an Isarian fortress with some palatial embellishments, though to most outsiders these buildings can look a little plan as the general style in the kingdom is a little austere.
