The Spirit Tree

The Archivist of Legends and Keeper of the Forgotten.

The Spirit Tree stands as the most ancient and awe-inspiring being within the Feywild, a monumental entity whose size dwarfs even the largest cities of Alterra. Its roots plunge deep into the veins of the Feywild, and its trunk stretches impossibly high, vanishing into the heavens. Its mighty branches stretch outward, forming an emerald canopy so vast it should, by all logic, block the sunlight from reaching the ground. Yet, the tree defies natural law: sunlight filters through its leaves as if they are transparent, bathing the land in a soft, golden light that seems almost divine.   At night, the Spirit Tree shows its wisdom and consideration. It parts its leaves in unseen ways, allowing the stars to shine through unobstructed, knowing full well how travelers and wanderers depend on them for guidance. The tree itself is a constant beacon—unmoving, eternal, and steadfast—serving as both guardian and guide to the Feywild’s endless mysteries.     The Archivist of Legends.
The Spirit Tree is not merely a memorial for the forgotten—it is the living repository of all Fey knowledge and history. If a name has ever been spoken, if a deed has ever been performed, The Spirit Tree knows it. It holds within its vast consciousness the collective memory of the Feywild, stretching back to the dawn of existence itself.   The tree’s understanding is not limited to the Feywild alone. Through the stories of Fey who ventured into other realms, it has gleaned knowledge of the Material Plane, the Shadowfell, and even distant multiverses. It knows the rise and fall of empires, the secrets of long-lost magic, and the truths hidden in ancient legends. This makes The Spirit Tree an unparalleled source of wisdom, though few are granted the privilege of accessing its knowledge.   To commune with The Spirit Tree, one must touch its bark, offering a fragment of their essence in return for the answers they seek. The tree speaks not with words but with impressions, memories, and visions, guiding those who dare to approach with a clarity that transcends mortal understanding.   Uniquely among the Feywild's entities, The Spirit Tree does not rely on its legend to sustain itself. Its life force is drawn from the thousands of wisps orbiting its form, remnants of forgotten Fey whose memories fuel its eternal vitality.     Keeper of the Forgotten.
When a Fey fades into obscurity, their story forgotten, and their name erased from mortal tongues, they wane from existence. Their essence, reduced to a faint wisp of what they once were, is drawn inexorably to The Spirit Tree. Thousands upon thousands of these wisps drift around the colossal being, glowing in an ever-changing spectrum of colors. Each wisp represents a Fey whose name and deeds have vanished from the world—but within The Spirit Tree, their stories live on.   The Spirit Tree holds the final thread of memory for all forgotten Fey, preserving their existence in whispers of legend. To some Fey, this final act of remembrance is a blessing, a peaceful end to their journey. To others, it is a bitter reminder of being forsaken, their essence simmering with resentment at being left behind.   On rare occasions, when a forgotten Fey’s name is spoken again in the Material Plane or their legend is rediscovered, they may return to the world, pulled from their slumbering state by the spark of belief. Some return unchanged, restored to their former selves, while others emerge transformed—scarred by their time in obscurity, their nature twisted by resentment or grief.   The Spirit Tree, however, will not freely give the name of a forgotten Fey. To do so would upset the delicate balance of the Feywild and risk unleashing a fury that the world is ill-prepared to face.     Notable Features:
The Spirit Tree is a colossal and vibrant being, radiating life and wisdom. Its bark is smooth yet firm, glowing faintly with a steady pulse of magic. Its leaves, impossibly green and lush, shimmer mesmerizingly as the wind dances through them. Streams of soft, glowing magic—blue and green—flow through its branches and coil around its immense trunk, as if the tree itself is breathing with the Feywild’s lifeforce.   Thousands of delicate, colorful wisps hover and drift in the air around the tree, their gentle light creating an ethereal glow that can be seen from miles away. These remnants of forgotten Fey are drawn to the tree’s aura, forming a perpetual orbit of memory and loss.   The Spirit Tree lacks a physical mouth, eyes, or ears, yet its roots stretch so deeply and widely across the Feywild that it perceives all that transpires within the realm. Its silent presence is an overwhelming reminder of its age, wisdom, and connection to the very fabric of the Feywild.
