Backstory

Born into the fallen Pendragon family, Arthur grew up under the scrutiny and discrimination of the noble class. Despite this, he discovered and mastered his family's long-lost—Unrivaled Swordsmanship, a legendary style containing five perfected forms that none of his predecessors could wield.

Recognizing his potential, Arthur's parents enrolled him in the Royal Military Academy at the age of twelve. There, he met the then-Crown Prince, Marcus Von Arden the third, who recognized his talent and supported his rise through the ranks. Arthur advanced swiftly, eventually becoming the Vice-Commander of the Empire’s army.

After the death of the reigning emperor, Arthur supported Marcus in claiming the throne. The succession was heavily contested, and the empire endured a brutal power struggle before Marcus ultimately prevailed. Though victorious, the civil conflict left deep scars on the empire, a cost Arthur never forgot. He vowed never to involve himself in another succession crisis that risked such destruction.

Arthur was later appointed Knight Commander and entrusted with the holy sword Imperion, in recognition of his loyalty and service. During his service, Arthur dedicated himself to constant training and ultimately achieved the state of Mind-Sword Union, earning him the title of Sword Saint.

Under Emperor Marcus’s command, Arthur led numerous successful campaigns, conquering kingdoms and crushing the empire’s enemies—actions that earned him the title Empire’s Sword.

When Emperor Marcus died without naming a successor, civil war erupted once again. Though courted by all sides, Arthur refused to support any claimant. Instead, he swore loyalty only to the Golden Throne and warned that if the civil war endangered the empire, he would act against the cause—regardless of bloodline.

He voluntarily stepped down as Knight Commander, relinquishing all military authority, and assumed the role of Imperial Guardian—a neutral protector of the throne.

Years later, when Agnus Von Arden ascended to the throne by slaughtering his siblings, Arthur knelt once more, resuming his service to the empire.

Arthur's Oath

By blade and blood, by duty and sacrifice, I pledge my sword—not to crown, nor kin, nor man—but to the Golden Throne. My blade is its will, my life its shield. Until death takes me—or duty ends me—I shall not waver.
— Arthur Pendragon
