Captain Bral

The eponymous founder of the Rock of Bral, Captain Bral first established the Rock as a pirate and slave refuge.

Bral's Rebellion & Legacy

For centuries, what would become the Rock of Bral was known only as "the Rock." It served as a Faerunian prison colony, charged with holding prisoners deemed too dangerous for even Revel's End to host. Bral himself was a pirate captain member of the legendary Black Brotherhood and a brilliant tactician. After serving a number of years on the Rock, Bral took advantage of the fact that work on the Rock was primarily agrarian -- Bral coordinated a number of riots throughout the tunnels that hollowed out the Rock's interiro, which forced the prison guards to over commit their forces away from the Rock's only dockyard, then Bral and a number of his own crewmen took control of the ship at the dock and turned their weapons against any ship attempting to dock. With the majority of the guards trapped in the interior caverns, control over what ships were able to dock, and plenty of food and water for themselves, the prisoners were quickly deemed more trouble than their worth and concessions were made in exchange for the release of the hostage guards.

Over the following years, the Rock prospered as a pirate hub and former prisoners and slaves were directly able to benefit from the export of precious metals mined in the caverns. Bral used his elevated status and growing resources to continue to fight against his former captors until one day he was killed in a raid by Selunite Wardens.

The people of the Rock renamed it the Rock of Bral as his memorial and declared the Rock to be a symbol of his legacy: independence.
