Vittaus Syndrome
Transmission & Vectors
Vittaus is easily spread by contact with any bodily fluid. The patient will often become contagious at the onset of symptoms.
Prognosis
Within hours of exposure to the virus, the patient will begin to experience extreme headaches quickly followed by the feeling of being detatched from their body. Within twenty-four hours of infection, the patient will begin to notice parts of their body phasing out of view temporarily, often to retun altered in some form i.e. elongated, clawed, fanged, , tentacled, etc. This will escalate quickly as their body moves between the the aether and the physical realm. During this time, the patient will also experience intense cravings for human blood.
Once their brain begins passing into the aether, their mental state quickly diminishes, leaving them unhinged and unpredictable.
The patient will eventually dereriorate into a death-like state, no longer registering a heart rate or brainwaves, but still capable of self-control. They are constantly pulled toward the aether, but forced to return to the physical realm to feed on their own kind.
Affected Groups
Thus far, Humans are the only species known to be suseptible to the disease.
History
The humans were weak, dying from a plague of their own creation. Trapped with a diseas they couldn't escape, they were unable to escape to the stars due to their short life spans and the long distances between planets. In their desperation, humanity stole two shards from the Yaanae. In their labs, their tortured the crystals, manipulating them with radiation and lasers until the Blood shard exploded, taking the aether shard with it.
Humans present were infected with a bizarre hunger for blood as their physical forms where pulled between the aether and the physical realm. Over time, their bodies were twisted beyond recognition as the disease spread throughout the planet.
Armed with a twisted immortality, the humans turned on the Yaanae that had sought to help them, slaughtering all but the pilot required to take them to the stars.
