June 2025: Back in the Saddle but the Horse Continues to Buck

Hey all. (Don't mind how late in the month this entry is.) So, the aforementioned "doldrums" seem to have lasted longer than I expected... and naturally, just as I started to finally get over my burnout, all of my energy and time was immediately redirected into dealing with a sudden and very serious medical emergency in the family. It's a long story and I don't feel that this is the best avenue for it; if you are curious I made a post about the ordeal on my tumblr. Suffice to say: it's been a very draining month. And of course, as I was writing this paragraph a few weeks ago, I was summarily informed that I'm going to be moving as of September at the latest, which is terribly inconvenient as I still haven't managed to land an actual job.   Yippee.

Moving past the assorted grievances... I've been making smaller tweaks here and there to the canon which are steadily appearing on the public site. While it's true that stepping away from the setting for an extended period interrupts whatever momentum I had accumulated and makes it a bit harder to pick it up again, such a break also allows me to look at the canon with a fresh perspective and accept certain things that need to be altered. Examples include changing Calypso's status from a moon of Atlas to a co-orbital trojan of Atlas, changing the name of the taniwha, and a significant revision to the Thalassans (formerly the Xib Zjhar) as a whole.

On that note, I don't think I'll be able to do Summer Camp this year like I was hoping. I'm only just kicking this burnout and it's being rapidly replaced with crushing existential dread as my job search continues to fail me, and I don't do great with prompted worldbuilding at the best of times. I certainly don't foresee making significantly large articles. However, I've been wrong about this before, and considering I use worldbuilding as an escapist coping method... well, we'll just see what happens.

Now for the part where I swallow my pride: I finally set up a Ko-fi page as a replacement for my defunct Patreon. I have about twelve US dollars to my name at this point and the job search has been unfruitful, so if you can spare a couple bucks -even just a little bit- that would be a big help. (Much affection and appreciation to my friends who have already donated!) It's rough out here, folks. Take care of yourselves and each other.
