Akkadian

The regional language of the Azzerheim Valley is Akkadian.

Description

Akkadian has a harsh tone and is described by those who do not speak it as an aggressive language that always seems to convey a barely contained rage in the speaker.

Speakers

Natives of Azzorah and Drennheim both speak Akkadian, with slightly differing dialects.

Dialects

Though nearly indistinguishable to non-native speakers, denizens of the Azzerheim Valley insist that there are two distinct dialects to their language.
  • Azzorani: Azzorani is the dialect of Azzorah, spoken in the western side of the Azzerheim Valley. It is said to be a warmer, more welcoming variant of the language.
  • Drennish: Natives of Drennheim speak the Drennish dialect of Akkadian, supposedly more distant and formal than its regional kin.

Writing System

Akkadian is written in the Cuneus script.

History

Akkadian broke away from Tarikovian, becoming a distinct language even before the collapse of the Western Tarikov Empire. Its extended relative isolation from the rest of the Westerlands meant that the Azzorheim Valley's dialect received little influence from the other languages is the Untheric family, leaving it the least cross-comprehensible between them.
