Aekamian
Aekamian is a regional Untheric adaptation native to the Hinterlands and the Sundered Vale.
Description
Aekamian is linguistically the closest active ancestor to the Untheric language that much of Western Astora is descended from. It's tone is soft and flowing relative to the rest of the Untheric language family.Speakers
Natives of the Sundered Vale are the primary speakers of Aekamian, and it is also the official language of Stormhaven, though many there speak it as a learned language rather than their native tongue.Dialects
Three distinct dialects have been identified within the Aekamian language, divided geographically between the three nations that speak it.- Coastal Aegamian: Coastal Aekamian is the dialect of Stormhaven and the rest of the Hinterlands. Stormhaven's status as the maritime trade capitol of the Westerlands leaves it with far fewer native Aekamian speakers, and so the dialect spoken here has far more loanwords and idioms from other human languages. It is often viewed derisively by other native Aekamian speakers who view it as a corruption of their language.
- Old Aekamian: Native to Roedacia is Old Aekamian, simply called Aekamian by those who speak it. It has remained largely unchanged over the centuries, lending credence to its claims as the original Aekamian dialect.
- Brunic Aekamian: Distinguishable only to those native to the Sundered Vale, Brunic Aekamian is an almost deliberate departure from Old Aekamian, reflective of Brunia's struggles to maintain its independence from Roedacia, both culturally and politically.
