Kamigawa Clan

The Kamigawa clan have been the leading power on the island of Shikoku for time immemorial, many believe they've only maintained their power through subterfuge and instilling fear in the other clans of the island. While these rumours lack critical evidence, the Kamigawa have never outright denied such facts. This would not be a surprising fact if it were to come to light however, as the island Shikoku is also known as the birthplace of the way of the Ninja in Rokugan. The Kamigawa clan itself has deep roots entrenched in the way of the ninja, many of their Daimyo are trained from birth as Ninja rather than primarily as Samurai. This makes many of the other clans view them with an air of warranted caution. While their motives are usually left unclear, they rarely make allies with the clans of the mainlands, choosing instead to stay out of the conflicts that plague mainland Rokugan. Which made their recent alliance with the Kasai clan unexpected to say the least. Many believed this alliance would signal the end of the recent civil war, but the alliance was broken almost as soon as it had begun. Only a year after confirming the alliance between the clans, Nobunaga invaded one of the Kamigawa clan's vassals on an island between the mainland and Shikoku. The Kamigawa were met with a hard decision, either uphold their new alliance with Nobunaga, or back their longtime allies in defending against the invasion. To the shock of Nobunaga, they chose the latter. Forcing the Kasai clan to abandon the invasion altogether. Now the two clans hold a disdain for one another akin to rivalry between the Yamagawa and Torakai clans.
