The Great Chain
In order to ensure an expedient and organized response in the event of any resurgence of the Eldritch hordes in the Brisit Wastes, the surviving legions of the War for Ilucin built the Great Chain. Hewn from stone and built into the faces of the Risen Peaks, these edifices serve as watchtowers, barracks for the Moonguard, and as refuge against the frozen mountain air.
With the help of Osonia, Mystic of Akroma, the beacons atop the keeps of the Great Chain are powered by an infinite source, drawing on extraplanar power. When the beacons are ignited, a solid beam of radiant energy shoots into the sky, visible for hundreds of miles. When one beacon is lit, all subsequent beacons ignite with it, and the threat becomes known all throughout the risen peaks nigh instantaneously. Fortunately, no such danger from the Brisit Wastes has necessitated such en masse response.
Tunnels and pathways connect all towers and keeps of the Great Chain, and are thus heavily guarded. The entrances to these tunnels can only be found inside the keeps, however, some tunnels have not been used in centuries. Most keeps on the mountains were erected after the Crimson Eclipse, and thus are not as well-manned as one would expect during times of great calamity. At the most, the towers don’t see more than a few dozen Moonguard in a given year. That being said, code mandates that at least ten Moonguard occupy a Keep of the Great Chain at all times.
