The Wardens of Ethera—1383 statement

In 1383 A.E, a statement appeared on every bulletin board in Malvarron and the Empire pertaining to be from a new resistance group known as The Wardens of Ethera. The letter consisted of two parts: a call to resistance and a threat of violent action against the empire.   The statement makes several references to Augustas Malvarro’s many speeches, including his last rally speech before the Vanguard Revolution, to threaten Lucianno directly whilst also seeking to provide hope to Revaelorians, the magi and others oppressed by the empire.

To the people of Revaelor and the outer city-states of Elvara,

The battle against the tyranny of your oppressors begins NOW.
We, the Wardens of Ethera, are the resistance and we will never surrender to the Malvarri savagery which defiles our native land.   The subjugation of the Elvaran people at the hands of the Vanguard and the brutish mercenaries of the empire has persisted for too long.   We say enough!   Enough of the violent horrors that have plagued our isle since the massacre of 1331. Enough of the oppressive decrees targeting those who do not wish to assimilate to the unlawful occupation, and enough of the organised slaughter of those unable to fight back.   Though we seek peace, we recognise that violent struggle is needed to reclaim our sovereignty. We encourage everyone to rise, to free yourselves from the Malvarri war machine—from the organised savages who seek to divide us.   Sabotage their organisations and business interests. Overwhelm their performative courts. Riot in their prisons. Disturb their banquets, ceremonies and celebrations. Let them rest not. Together we will bring chaos to the masters of chaos themselves and destroy their throne from within.

For the attention of Lucianno the butcher in blue, his courtiers and loyalists,

We do not accept the rule of the son of the Usurper.   Nor will we recognise any of his illegitimate heirs or successors, or their so-called divine right of leadership.   Our true sovereign is Duke Georgio Tarryn, rightful heir of New Revaelor, lawful Lord of Bridgeport, Whittlebay and Tullis Island, protector of Littleton-on-the-Moor, Grand Marshal of the Tarryn Land Army and First Admiral of the South-Elvaran Fleet.   As foretold in ancient prophecy, our duke is the shepherd—a champion of Ethera, and he must be allowed to fulfil his destiny to the benefit of all Astaeria.   To that end, we make these demands.   We call for the IMMEDIATE CESSATION OF VIOLENCE which plagues Elvaran lands.   An END TO THE ILLEGAL OCCUPATION of the lands belonging to the Duchy of Tarryn and the independent cities of Elvara, namely the Kingdom of Ironheim, Littleton-on-the-Moor, Springbrook and Greyspire.   We strongly urge the butcher to STEP DOWN from the Azure Throne, and that he and his barbaric forces SURRENDER peacefully to our military personnel without bloodshed. Duke Tarryn will return as the lawful sovereign of Revaelor, Bridgeport, Whittlebay and Tullis Island. All political prisoners will be released, and all lands, freedoms and wealth accumulated at the expense of the Elvaran people will be returned.   If the empire cannot or will not satisfy these conditions, the crimson debt incurred in 1331 and each year thereafter will be repaid in full.   We have the troops and weaponry necessary to ensure your doom. We have agents in every empire-led organisation in Revaelor. We stalk the streets, shroud your institutions, fighting your corruption and selfishness in the shadows; but more importantly, we have infiltrated your home, spreading the desire for rebellion against your barbarous ways—leaving nothing but hope in our wake.    After all, if we sow the seeds of revolution now, then the Butcher and his allies will be reaped in the coming harvest of justice.
By the unbound light of the Divine Mother, your throne will crumble.

The strengths of this article lie in its vivid and impassioned tone that effectively conveys the urgency and intensity of a revolutionary call to arms. It uses direct, evocative language that captures both the desperation and hope of an oppressed people, making the resistance’s motivations and demands feel immediate and personal. The statement skillfully weaves historical context—referencing past massacres and political figures—with a clear ideological stance and concrete calls for action, which grounds the manifesto in a believable and detailed world. The structured format, addressing both the general populace and the ruling elite, creates a powerful contrast between the resistance’s vision and the empire’s tyranny. Additionally, the use of symbolic and prophetic language, such as invoking “the unbound light of the Divine Mother” and “the crimson debt,” adds gravitas and a mythic quality that elevates the manifesto beyond mere political rhetoric. Overall, the article is compelling, emotionally charged, and rich in narrative detail.
