The Floating Markets and Bazaar

If you want to browse the best, exotic and imported goods then Bridgeport is the place to be. As the largest port on the continent, a plethora of goods find their way here from every region in Astaeria.
The bustling main square is packed with market stalls selling Malvarri wares. You can hear a multitude of enticing shouts from the vendors, each keen to make a sale to curious passers-by. Street food carts fill the air with the smell of sickly sweet Honey-Dough, rich Embari spices and searing meats such as freshly butchered Moorpig and Elvaran Elk.

Bridgeport Clock Tower

The stone steps leading up to the Old Town Hall form a handy, makeshift stage for entertainers and street performers.   Musicians and bards perform there throughout the day, and most of the evening, each hoping to make a bit of coin (if you’re feeling charitable). The illuminated clock tower provides a romantic glow of soft-light and performers are often seen quibbling over the best spot for the perfect lighting.   Walking towards the harbour the shouts from the vendors, and music of the performers, fades a little to a vague buzz.
Along the side streets the shop fronts are laden with goods such as fine silks and linens, fresh fruit and vegetables and liquor.
Establishments of note include Aemons’s Antiques and Rare Books; Leadbetter’s Armory; and the Madame Elgalora’s Apothecary.   The harbour itself, is home to a congregation of bobbing, wooden barges and small boats. Each of these boats contains a merchant selling their wares from the dockside. Over time, this area has come to be known as the Floating Market. Some of these boats are permanent fixtures, whilst others simply dock whilst sailing the Sea of Glass wishing to leave port with a lighter cargo than they were when they arrived. Anything from fresh fish to ornamental goods and from clothes to live creatures can be bought here.   It is common practice to haggle and barter if you want the best prices but be careful not to offend. Merchants from the Ember Isles can be feisty and if your haggling price is too low, they can take it as an insult. Also, beware of sneak thieves and pickpockets who work the dock, they will make easy work of stealing your coin purse or jewelry if you do not pay attention to your surroundings..
On a lighter note, there are some notable ale houses and taverns in the surrounding streets of the bazaar including:
  • The Anchor: a traditional ale house serving good ale and light bar snacks.
  • The Crab and Kipper: a highly recommended seafood restaurant.
  • The Mariners Rest: a traditional inn with a fully stocked bar and home cooked Malvarri cuisine.
If you’re looking for somewhere a little more risque: for a game of cards, a brawl or even some company for the night, then The Salty Clam may be more your speed!

Ah! This seems a lovely city to stroll around in! So much to do and see. If you give me permission I would love to use it for one of the cities in my campaign world. I'll directly link the map pin to this article since it's perfect.

Thank you so much! I would be flattered! I'm thinking of turning this city into a campaign setting myself in the near future, so I will be producing a proper city map for it, you might want to wait until then :)

Best wishes

Beautiful descriptions, very poetic! I love the overall mood here, it feels like a wonderful place to stroll through. As long as you beware of the pickpockets. ;)
