Summer Camp '25 Pledge & Prep

Summer Camp 2025 - PREP

This will be my jump into World Anvil, my first Summer Camp and my first article too! I'm a long-time lurker on here, and have been building up both the courage and the commitment to try get articles written and posted. I have a million ideas buzzing in my head just waiting for me to put together and share!

I am going to pledge to do 8 prompts this year, aim for Copper! I believe that with all the ideas already floating in my head, I'll be able to put pen-to-paper (or to hand-to-keyboard) and get them down. Being new, I'll still be getting the hang of things so 8 is a good goal but who knows, I might get more done!

PREPARATION

Week 1

Theme: Nourishment

Assignment 1: Think about ways the theme of Nourishment affects your world. Do people generally have what they need? What happens when they don’t?

Nourishment is an interesting theme to talk about and so much to write about, but so little time! My world is in one large land mass, with some small islands around it. It has different biomes across it which means some areas are in frozen villages, and some are in barren deserts so there is very much a need for careful resource management within the societies of Askvìniké. Major cities and settlements are often settled around particular resources and focus on working with that, and trading with neighbouring areas to get what they need.

Assignment 2: Download the pledge document and fill it out with your goal for Summer Camp!

Deciding my Summer Camp goal was an easy one, my motivations are around wanting to finally get something uploaded and push passed that awkward "where do I start?" phase!

I want to create a world, and have a place that challenges me creatively, and makes me get out of my comfort-zone. I'm doing the 8 prompts and I will focus them around building some groundwork for my world. I don't want to set them in anything specific, I want to create a variety for Summer Camp, so I can have more to reference off of in future

Assignment 3: If you found any outdated articles in your world, update the most important ones now! Do the same with your worldbuilding meta.

This is my first article (given it gets posted on time) so I don't have anything to really look back on here. With it being a new world, I went to my Meta and revisited it. I fleshed out some of my answers and added a whole section which I had blank before. I've got it up to 63% from in toe 50s before!

I've spent some time going through and updating my Meta, there were a few points in there that were no longer matching up with my head cannon and some where blank, which is now only a few blank! I'm not ready to post it all yet, but it is getting there!

Week 2

Theme: Roots

Assignment 1: Look at cultures and areas to focus on

I'm going to try to work some of the prompts around a group of people, and a species I've been working on recently behind the scenes. I haven't got very far, just an idea at this time. I've been toying around with the name "Mörkallen" for them! They are an aquatic humanoid people who live in freezing land normally. Being from a climate with very little around them, they have been quite secluded and they are very set in their ways.

Assignment 2: Review your setting's roots

I went over and had a look at my homepage. I hadn't given it much thought except for choosing a theme and going about my day. I read through the articles in the Summer Camp Prep article. I added a small world subtitle to set the scene but I have left the world into/description alone for now. I had that textbox open for a while trying to put it together but I think I needed to step back and I recognise that I need to build the world itself up more before I can get a concise summary of it which is viewer-ready!

Assignment 3: Back to your roots

I don't have any articles yet like the prompt says to check, but what I did instead is go through my paper notes I have in my bag. This is where I jot down my ideas when I am out and about when they come to me, and it is where I have the skeleton of my world scribbled away.

Even just between then and today (which isn't very long!) I think I've come a fair way in my creative thinking. I am piecing bits together, and working out what does and doesn't work in a world.

Week 3

Theme: Metamorphosis

Assignment 1: What transformations and adaptations have the people in your world gone through? What changes are going on right now… and who is trying to stop them?

I only have an idea for the one group of people right now, so we will keep in theme with the Mörkallen! These people have only somewhat recently been connected with other civilisations o the continent. They were secluded in a far corner, covered with ice and snow so very few were able to reach there. They are still getting used to interacting with people who are very different from themselves, so they are reserved, and cautious. They're working on establishing trade of a precious crystal that is abundant in the region, which will give them an important part in modern society.

Assignment 2: Shake things up!

For this I asked my sibling @spooktacular for some inspiration, I asked them for some music to try listening to in hopes of getting the creativity flowing! They provided me this lovely classical music playlist of mild, but emotional pieces of piano which helped my to concentrateon this prep, and I might come back to in future!

Assignment 3: Learn from other worldbuilders!

I haven't spent as much time as I should have by now just looking at other people's work on World Anvil. I went through the Worldbuilding Award winners, read some articles and looked at some world home pages, to get some ideas on how to do my own.

I looked at a variety, I looked through the Worldbuilding Award winners pages, and looked at some in similar themes to mine (I loved scrolling through the horror worlds!). I was primarily focusing on the home pages of these worlds. Trying to get inspiration for my own. I really enjoyed all the unique art people have used for the backgrounds and their headers. I've added new art to my to-do list to bring my world to another level and set it apart form others!

Week 4

Theme: Tomorrow

Assignment 1: Think about current events that will impact the future. Who is working to create a specific kind of future?

This one is super secret until I share it with everyone in a proper worldbuilding events, but I have a big idea about an event in the future with catastrophic repercussions that could/will change everything for the people of Askvìniké! This will take so long to put together, but I have outlined it and jotted it down in my little notebook for future me who is more enthusiastic about spending weeks on the one article!

Assignment 2: Make sure everything’s ready—from your writing space to your writing schedule—before Summer Camp begins!

-Discord server has been joined! It was the first thing I did when I created my World Anvil account. I've been stalking in there to get inspiration!

@spooktacular is doing it with me! They got me on the Summer Camp train.

-I'm not in any other world building communities, but if I do any cool art during the event, I'll post on my socials there to promote it and to hold me accountable!

Assignment 3: Who or what will help you achieve your goal? What will your sharing strategy be during Summer Camp?

A few things to write about here! The aforementioned Spook and I will be doing it together, so we will annoy each other with progress updates over the month which will motivate us to keep going!

I'm planning on doing at least 2 articles a week, that will get me to the 8 goal. If I get slack one week, I will catch up the next! On day one of Summer Camp I'll be starting the day with cleaning up my desk, making sure it is ready for me to sit at it for an uncomfortable length of time!

EXTRA NOTES:

I really crammed this in last minute in true me fashion, just like back at school homework! I'm glad I got it done though. This has go the creativity flowing and made me eager for the month ahead, lots of fun and interesting articles to create!
