What are Yokai

Yokai are creatures, both humanoid and animal, which have an inherent ability to use Enrai and Magic. In addition Yokai have a natural connection to Yomi and Takama, able to better tap into the Enrai coming from those realms. Physically Each type differs in unique and different ways, with little common features, except for the ability to use magic.

Origins

The origin of Yokai varies, but there are two origins. The First in involves the creation of Yokai specific Kami, granting them a close relationship, usually created for a specific purpose. The second is Enrai giving legends and myth life, though is poorly understood on how this was done, but the general idea is that when a legend or myth has been around long enough, that Enrai manipulates the physical world to make what was already believed to have existed, now fully real.

Categories

Humanoid

Humanoid Yokai generally mimic the shape of humans, two arms, two legs, with the capacity for tool use, and intelligence. Most are sentient to some degree, though the intelligence level varies. Humanoid Yokai usually have a few types of magic which they are able to have some level of natural use. Humanoid Yokai are usually organized into groups of their own kind, and generally keep themselves separate from humans, but vary on their economic and political independence.

Animal

Animal Yokai generally are closer to animals, sometimes as subspecies or sometimes as distinct creatures. Like Humanoid Yokai, animal yokai are able to use magic, though to a much more limited degree, only capable of one type, nor capable of learning for then their natural ability allows. Their habits and behavior varies as much as animals, with animal Yokai generally being left alone by humans, and only coming into conflict when human expansion pushes into their habitat.
