Earth Magic

Magic Overview

Earth Magic is the use of Enrai by mages to control and manipulate earth, and its related forms: sand, dirt, stone, coal, gemstones, etc. Earth Magic is usually the most defensive oriented of magic, but still has a great deal of versatility.

Strengths

Earth Mages benefit in regions with exposed rock, mainly highlands and mountains, but attacks are entirely limited by the earth around the mage.

Weaknesses

Earth Magic is difficult to impossible in regions with little to no earth. mainly while at sea on a ship, or while in the air on a airship, but also in most urban environments where access to earth is limited and blocked by structures.

List of abilities

Earth magic has a wide range of abilities, with lower ranked abilities able to be used at a stronger level by high ranked mages. Combat Earth Mages typically favor heaver weapons to use as conduits for their magic: hammers, axes, great swords, heavy polearms, etc. While non combat earth mages use basic hammers or shovels.

  • D Ranked Earth Tremor: creating vibrations and disruptions in the ground, enough to cause loss of balance. Can be directed or area of effect from the caster.
  • D Ranked Earthen Grasp: creating earth under other feet to grapple them in place, preventing movement, short range.
  • C Ranked Earth Spikes: creating spikes made up of dirt and stone from the ground to impale enemies or obstruct movement.

  • C Ranked Earth Pulse: more advanced version of tremor, which sends mounds of earth at a foe.
  • B Ranked Rockslide: The use of earth magic to trigger a controlled collapse of a cliff or hill side to create wave of earth, rock, and debris.
  • B Earth Envelopment: Able to to create earth which rises from below them, enveloping them completely, and rendering them immobile.

  • D Ranked Boulder Attack: able to form and control small and large boulders, which can be used as medium ranged projectiles.
  • B Earth Barrage: Creating a scattered effect of dozens of boulders being propelled at once.
  • A Ranked Rock Bullets: creating small rocks which are then accelerated at a rapid speed, capable of injury or killing an opponent.

  • B Ranked Earth Artillery: The use of earth magic as a long range attack using boulders to shell hostile fortifications.
  • A Ranked Boulder Earth Attack: Creating dozens of large sized boulders of earth and rock which are then propelled at medium or long range, exploding on impact creating shrapnel of rock and debris.

  • C Ranked Stone Armor: Creating a layer of stone and earth around themselves to create an improvised armor, although limited in effectiveness to modern weapons without it also being overly bulky.

  • E Ranked Earthen Rampart: creating a large earthen rampart of mostly loose dirt which can be used as rudimentary cover. At this level, it takes time to complete depending on the size, with higher levels able to create it quicker.
  • C Ranked Stone Walls: creating reinforced earthen walls with stone quickly to intercept incoming projectiles.
  • B Ranked Concreate Walls: The use of earth magic to create reinforced concrete walls.

  • Quicksand Barrier: The use of earth magic to create a rapidly deployed barrier within seconds which basic attacks or one advanced attack.

  • Earth resistance: the use of earth magic to better absorb earth magic attacks

  • E Ranked Pebble control:The use of earth magic to control small rocks to distract enemies.
  • C Ranked Sand Magic: controlling sand to create dust storms to obscure vision
  • B Ranked Quicksand Ambush: the use of earth magic to convert loose dirt or sand into quicksand to drag unsuspecting foes into its depths.

  • D Ranked Earth Fists: Concentrating earth around the user's arms to increase the strength of the user.
  • C Ranked Earth Anchor: the use of earth magic to create an anchor effect firmly reinforcing a mage's footing, which can also be used to secure ropes or cables.
  • C Ranked Earth Climb:The use of earth magic to climb any earthen cliff by increasing the mages grip and hold of cliff wall.
  • Detection
  • B Ranked Seismic Sense: The ability to detect vibrations through earth, enabling the detection of movement, and vague details on what’s moving. Most useful underground.
  • B Earthquake Detection: he use of earth magic to Sense and predict incoming earthquakes or tremors in the vicinity, up to 30 minutes in advance.

    Agriculture
  • C Ranked Soil Fertilization: the use of earth Magic to increase the concentration of fertile soil, and improve the fertility of poor soil.
  • Mining
  • E Ranked Mineral Detection: able to detect the presence of ores and gems.
  • D Ranked Coal Control: Magic is able to use coal as though it was any rock, but has a tendency to catch fire, useful for coal mining.
  • C Ranked Tunnel Creation: The use of earth magic to create tunnels and passages underground, improper usage can cause it to collapse.

    Construction
  • D Ranked Mud Solidification: The use of earth magic to solidify mud back into solid ground by either raising earth the mud, or by removing the earth from the water. Used in construction in marshes, or to repair muddy ground for travel.
  • C Ranked Concrete Creation: Mage is able to convert existing rock and earth into concrete, a much stronger version, enabling the use of concrete with any existing ability or for construction.
  • C Ranked Earth Sapping: the use of earth magic to create short term tunnels under ground for the purposes of undermining walls, digging into trenches, or to counter such attempts.
  • S Ranked Landscape Alternation: The alteration of existing terrain to a small degree, the destruction of hills, or small isthmuses, or the creation of new hills or isthmuses, or canyons.

  • E Ranked Clay Magic: able to free mold small amounts of clay, whatever shapes the mage can manage, usually used for arts or pottery.

  • C Ranked Stabilize Broken bones and damaged Muscles: the use of earth magic to stabilize and heal broken bones and torn muscles.

  • D Ranked Earth Slide: the use of earth magic to assist the moving of wheels, tracks, and crates through earthen and rocky terrain.

  • C ranked Anti-Earth Barrier: the use of magic to create a invisible barrier which prevents the use of Earth magic within, expect those granted permission by the caster.

  • B Ranked Earth Seal: the use of earth magic to surrounded and seal Yokai which exposes them to other attacks.

    Purification Magic

  • B Ranked Purify Land: the use of earth magic to purify the ground of an area of Enrai corruption.

    Puppet Magic

  • B Ranked Earth Puppet: The use of earth magic to create a puppet which takes the form of dirt or Stone Golems which are heavily armored, whose limbs can move with ball joints, enabling movement and manipulation. They can follow simple commands from the earth mage autonomously while close to the caster. They are slow, but extremely durable and tough, making them suitable as tanks or heavy transport. Dirt golems last only about a day, but stone golems can last for several months.

  • Earth Support: The use of earth magic to support structural integrity of buildings enabling taller and more resilient buildings.
  • Ability Ranks for Earth Magic

    • E Ranked: Earth mages at this level know basic spells.
    • D Ranked: Earth mages at this level know beginner spells.
    • C Ranked: Earth mages at this level know Advanced spells.
    • B Ranked: Earth mages at this level know Expert spells.
    • A Ranked: Earth mages at this level know Master spells.
    • S Ranked: Earth mages at this level are the best Earth magic can do.

    Earth Magic Relation to other Magic

    Earth Mages are strong against Wind and Lighting Magic, while being weak against Wood Magic. Earth Mages have a easier time learning Metal and Wood Magic despite Earth magic's weakness to Wood magic.

    Earth Magic Training

    Earth mages focus a study specific types of rocks, soil, sand, etc, which affects the strength of their abilities. Earth mages like other mages, typically learning at a early age.
