Mr. Kalik

A shadowy, legendary figure Mr. Kalik is the bogeyman in the Sol System's criminal underworld. His tendrils extend across the entire system, at nearly every level of society. Nobody knows how many legitimate and illegitimate enterprises he has his hands in and the mere mention of his involvement is enough to bring fear to most.

Few can claim to have met Mr. Kalik in person as he tends to work with intermediaries, trusted men and women who speak on his behalf. On the occasion when he has appeared physically he has been described as a short and stocky fellow with a shaven head and a broad grin. He is said to be charming, personable and inscrutable. He always seems to know a lot about the people he meets and gives the impression he can read minds.

Those who have behold his wrath call him the Devil.

Mr. Kalik is a fixer, a man who can get anything for the right price. His fees are often unpredictable, though he seems fond of obtaining promises of service at a future date. The wise always answer when Mr. Kalik calls in a debt. Those who renege tend to disappear or regret not holding up their end of the bargain.

He is sometimes seen with a cat, though its shape, size and colour is often different.

Mr. Kalik rarely travels alone and is usually accompanied by an assortment of henchmen as well as his "son" David. A tall and lean young man with an odd air about him David is a strange and perplexing fellow, his mannerisms quite disquieting for most. Kalik will react badly if anyone is unfriendly toward David and such behavior is one of the few things to truly annoy him. David is believed by some to be Kalik's greatest enforcer and there are numerous accounts of bloodbaths in which David is the only survivor.

Ultimately, Kalik is an enigma. Nobody knows what side if any he is on, what his goals are and what are his motivations. He can be benevolent, and he can be utterly malicious. He can help those in need with no promise of pay, or demand everything in exchange for his assistance. Nobody knows to what end, if any, he is working towards or what his ultimate goal is.
