Sankari

A great cultural hero of the Naamalainen, the life-saga of Sankari is among the best-known legends from ancient Kotimaa. Though historical evidence to support their existence is spotty, it is believed that their role as the archetypal hero allowed stories of the adventures of a great number of disconnected individuals to be attributed to a singular recognizable name. More accurate than to say there was no Sankari in history would be to say there were many, heroes whose names have been forgotten but whose deeds live on.

Personal history

If the legends are to be believed, Sankari was auspicious from birth. It is said that God saw a spirit that would one day gain the power to defy Its inevitability, and to prevent this from ever coming to pass It tore the spirit in two, separating each half into a different being at the times of their birth. One of the two half-spirits would be born as Sankari, a robust and healthy baby with a wail to wake the dead.

Failures & Embarrassments

In the final installment of their life-saga, To Sin Against Death, Sankari recovers the spirit of Tietäjä from Nukkumaa only to discover that by reviving them, they have doomed their beloved to an agonizing existence. At their request, Sankari returns Tietäjä to God, but afterward is so overcome by guilt for the suffering their heresy brought upon their lover that they choose to follow them back into the lands of Death for good.
