Mourningstars
Mourningstars are the group of twenty-two individuals that have fallen from the Floating Isle. Their are humanoid in appearance with a set of wings growing from their backs, but their true forms are often much more terrifying and difficult to describe. Each Mourningstar has a set of numerals etched into their collarbones that denote where in the order they reside.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Commonly they appear as bipedal species with a pair of legs, arms, and wings that grow from their back - however, this form is just a ruse to blend into the local populace. As long as a Mourningstar is in possession of their wings, their true form can take on a multitude of visuals - anything from multiple pairs of wings to burning halos, statues, or even skeletal features.
Genetics and Reproduction
Before the fall from the Floating Isle, the Mourningstars never had the ability to reproduce. If grievous wounds were dealt, the body of the Mourningstar would become incubated with a copy of itself, be reborn from the corpse, and grow back into the matured body it had cloned in just a few days. Since the fall of the Isle, however, this ability seems to have been blocked off.
For now, it is unclear how reproduction of the Mourningstars works - Valeria was born in a similar way to their cloned ability before the Fall, but retained no ancestral memories or knowledge from before her birth. Since the Fall, Israfel has also been able to end the lives of other Mourningstars without them reincarnating, and has been feverishly researching a way to produce new life himself.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Mourningstars, aside from the usual five senses, are also able to harness their aura and seek out anomalies in the fabric of reality around them. This ability leads them to being able to influence belief in subtle ways, contorting the Will of Humanity to their own ends.
