Orosai

Demographics

Orosai contains one of the most varied populations in Arunia. Whilst mainly human, most races can be found there (including dwarves, elves, tieflings and dragonborn).

Government

Orosai has no ruler. Instead, it is divided into districts that are governed by noble families and their men. Political power is ever-shifting, with constant conflict and struggle between the lords. The majority of conflict is enacted by Prowlers, who are specialised warriors that carry out the lords’ espionage and other dishonourable deeds. However, in recent times, the power dynamic has begun to shift. Whilst each of the Lords and their families remains in control of their own district, they each have sworn an oath to serve Lord Tamura. On paper, he insists he is still their equal, however one needs only walk the streets and see all the guards decked in his family's colours, even in districts that are not governed by him.

Defences

Similar to Guldarom, Orasai has some natural defence from the mountain range it is built near. Their defences focus less on outside threats (as there has been little conflict between Orasai and other settlements) but instead is designed to protect from internal conflict. The defences vary between regions, but they all include large castles or palaces that are built to protect against espionage and attacks from other lords.

Guilds and Factions

There are 5 major noble families that occupy Orasai. These include Tamura, Katori, Saigo and Ōten, each of whom rule over their respective region. The fifth noble family, Nogen, is an exception to the rule. Though they used to rule over their own region, their reign was ended during the Burning of Nogen. After the tragedy, all members of the family were slain or missing (presumed dead), and their lands were taken split between the remaining lords, with Tamura claiming the majority.

History

The history of Orasai is one rife with political feuds and struggles. Though the power between each family has remained somewhat balanced through the years, the biggest power shift occurred fairly recently, after the end of the Great War. Tamura and Nogen had been in open war for around a year when Tamura launched a surprise assault on the Nogen castle. It is theorised that this was made possible by his Prowlers, who infiltrated and identified key passages and defences within the castle. This event came to be known as the Burning of Nogen, as the castle was almost completely razed to the ground. Lord Nogen was slain and his wife and 3 children were captured. Tamura has not released much information on their fate, though some rumours suggest they may have escaped imprisonment, though this is deemed unlikely as they have not been sighted since.

Geography

Orosai sits on open plains near the Orosai mountain range. The region is very saturated with rivers that run directly through the land towards Stormcrest and out through the sea.
