City-State of Sakaria (Sah-kah-re-ah)

Introduction

Nestled between the Night Sea to the west and the Eastern Ocean to the east, the City-State of Sakaria thrives on a region of strategic and economic importance. Bordered to the north by the Sythanian Horse Tribes and the Kimerhan Kingdom, and to the south by the Ponthian Kingdom and the Ghobi Desert, Sakaria has historically been a frontier of both opportunity and danger.   Legend holds that Sakaria was the last place on the continent where a flying horse (pegasus) was seen. Six centuries ago, the colony of Muabin origin was nearly abandoned until Lampa traders arrived, establishing a thriving mercantile economy. Their leader, Jago the Golden, mounted atop a pegasus, liberated the settlement from Muabin rule and declared it independent.   Today, Sakaria is ruled by Basileu, who presides over a powerful trading city-state influenced by both Lampa civilization and the northern Sythanian horsemen. Its nobility celebrates the finest qualities of both cultures, resulting in a society that is at once disciplined, mercantile, and fiercely resilient.

Key Characteristics

Sakarian society is a blend of Lampa refinement and nomadic vigor. Its citizens are adept merchants, seasoned seafarers, and capable warriors. Religion centers on the Lampa pantheon, providing spiritual cohesion while allowing the coexistence of regional customs.   The military reflects the cultural fusion of Sakaria. Warriors fight in Lampa fashion, emphasizing disciplined formations, while the ferocity of their nomadic heritage remains evident. This combination produces an exotic fighting style, in which long spear traditions merge with nomadic axe techniques. Sakarian soldiers often wield polearms with rhythmic precision, while other citizens maintain a preference for the spear or axe as their weapon of choice.   Economically, Sakaria maintains active trade agreements with southern Lampa city-states and a mutual defense pact with Kimerha against potential threats from the Violet Empire. These alliances, combined with the city’s frontier location, ensure both prosperity and strategic relevance.

Regional Dynamics

Sakaria occupies a pivotal position on the Night Sea coast, controlling access between the northern Sythanian horse tribes, the southern Ponthia Kingdom, and eastern maritime trade routes. Its influence rests on a combination of mercantile power, military skill, and strategic diplomacy, allowing the city-state to maintain sovereignty and project strength across its region.

Sakaria

The capital city, Sakaria, sits along the coastline, serving as the economic and cultural heart of the city-state. Its ports bustle with merchant vessels from across the continents, establishing Sakaria as a key hub for trade and naval activity.   The architecture reflects a fusion of Lampa refinement and Sythanian practicality, with wide avenues, fortified districts, and market squares teeming with goods and artisans. Temples dedicated to the Lampa pantheon stand alongside civic and residential structures, representing both cultural heritage and spiritual devotion.
