Lost Metal

What is lost must not be found.

The epitomous lost metal, gone from the world at an unknown point, can sometimes be pried from the secrets of the realms, offering its unique characteristics to those who can intuit its workings.   Weapons, ammunition, armor, and other equipment made out of lost metal deflects force aimed at it, dealing 50% of all damage (such as from spells, attacks, or even falling damage) dealt to it post-mitigation (such as harness) back in the same direction in a 5 foot cone per 20 damage negated (minimum 5 feet) as the same damage type. Damage deflected in this way is not taken. Weapons, ammunition, armor, and other equipment made out of lost metal otherwise function as if made out of steel except as noted. Lost Metal is so costly that weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is not included in the prices given. Due to refusing all energies, lost metal is incapable of being enchanted.   Weapons Weapons and ammunition made from lost metal deals an additional amount of damage equal to 50% of all damage that can normally be multiplied on a critical hit. This damage includes damage dealt by a successful critical hit. This is considered a separate instance of damage for hardness and damage reduction. When used to successfully parry an attack, weapons and ammunition made from lost metal deals 50% of the damage that would have been dealt to its wielder back at their attacker in a 5 foot cone per 20 damage dealt (minimum 5 feet) as the same damage type. Due to the size of ammunition, ammunition made of lost metal almost always erases itself from its inherent morphing, and only has a 10% chance of being recovered at best.   Armor Armor made from lost metal grants its wearer the same protections it provides itself, deflecting a portion of all damage taken back in the direction of the attack as if it took the damage itself in a 5 foot cone per 20 damage negated (minimum 5 feet) as the same damage type, 10% if it’s light armor, 25% if it’s medium armor, and 50% if it’s heavy armor.   Items without metal parts cannot be made from lost metal. An arrow could be made of lost metal, but a quarterstaff could not.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Often made primary of cubes and other purely angular and measured shapes such as trapezoids, the metal takes on an odd dull, pale gold colour at most times. This often makes it seem already tempered or smithed when in truth its natural structure simply mimics most crafted metals.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Lost Metal refuses to retain energy at any level besides its own resting state, causing interactions such as never becoming cold or hot, and will often begin morphing rapidly to begin expending energy provided to it, generating kinetic force and modifying it's structure uncontrollably, sometimes even generating more lost metal or even accidentally erasing some of itself. However, lost metal is limited to the area it is contained in in regards to how much it is capable of duplicating or rearranging itself.

Geology & Geography

It has no location that naturally houses it anymore, due to being removed from the universe. All the same however, like all else that has been stripped away, it would remain in the lost halls for those foolish enough to free even the smallest amount of it.

Origin & Source

The origin of this metal is lost to time and knowledge beyond mortal's ken. And even those who do know of it cannot fathom acquiring it from the vaults it is sealed in.
