Within the endless storm and electrically stuffed realm of storeim, resides the lightning elementals, viciously aggressive and quick to act outsiders whose cockiness gets in the way of thinking for just a moment a little too often.
Physical Description: Many lightning elementals, including primal ones, have a roughly humanoid shape though some prefer animalistic shapes (particularly birds and dragons), and a few truly dangerous primal elementals can appear to be nothing more than large disembodied heads made of dark clouds with flickering lightning tongues. Civilized lightning elementals nigh only take on the humanoid forms with greater detail then their primal brethren to better communicate with mortals on malbaar, whether they are welcome or not due to their dangerous nature. They do this by using their control over their form to often have the lightning be of varied intensity and thickness, while others can often form a completely opaque form of electricity akin to plasma, though such a thing is rare. Regardless of the shape a lightning elemental takes, the air around the creature hums and throbs with the promise of electrocution and the tangy stink of ozone.

Society: The culture of lightning elementals can be summarized with the word "battle" with no particular difficulty, brawls starting over the most pitiful of reasons due to their own natural craving for conflict. With only some semblance of care over not killing their opponents, these battle hungry outsiders often become quite skilled at fighting, with even civilized elementals having no particular qualms fighting over nothing if they're bored. Any possible ostracization a civilized lightning elemental might face is simply an excuse to start a fight and prove themselves the strongest, effectively meaning any attempt at ostracizing them fails before it even starts.
Relations: Many races are wary of lightning elementals, even the most peaceful of lightning elementals often just waiting for a good cause to have a fight rather then any reason, leaving most as simply seen as a ticking time bomb by others. They are often compared to shockborne as creatures of lightning, in which civilized lightning elementals feel a one sided rivalry towards due to the pact races' preference for the reliable non-roughhousing shockborne over them. More aggressive, or uncaring elementals particularly enjoy attacking creatures that are made of metal and creatures that wear metal armor or wield metal weapons, their aggressive willingness to leap into battle simply seen as too self-destructive by most others.
Alignment and Religion: Lightning elementals often are of the true or chaotic neutral alignments but can vary, with no restriction to their alignment. Nearly all lightning elementals worship samli as ruler and god of all storms, and those that don't often live brave, but short lives.
Adventurers: Lightning Elementals are less common to become adventurers, as civilized lightning elementals are still battle hungry and can be satisfied with the conflict that occurs within the storms of malbaar or storeim. But those that do are considered unparalleled scouts and rogues.
Standard Racial Traits
- Ability Score Racial Traits: Lightning Elementals are some of the dumbest outsiders in the universe. They gain +2 Dexterity, and -4 Intelligence.
- Type: Lightning Elementals are Outsiders with the electricity and elemental subtypes.
- Size: Lightning Elementals are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
- Base Speed: Lightning Elementals have a fly speed of 100 feet with perfect maneuverability.
- Languages: Lightning Elementals begin play speaking Electrumite. Elementals with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic). See the Linguistics skill page for more information about these languages.
Feat and Skill Racial Traits
- Impulsive: Lightning Elementals receive Improved Initiative as a bonus feat at level 1.
Offense Racial Traits
- Metal Mastery (Ex): Lightning elementals gain a +1 bonus on attack rolls if their opponent is wearing metal armor, is wielding a metal weapon, or is made of metal (such as an iron golem).
- Natural Attack: Lightning Elementals gain a slam attack as primary natural attack that deal 1d6 points of damage and 1d4 points of electricity damage.
- Spark Leap (Ex): Lightning elementals gain a +2 bonus on bull rush, disarm, overrun, and trip attacks when they charge a creature against whom their metal mastery ability applies.
Defense Racial Traits
- Elemental Immunities: Lightning Elementals are immune to bleed, non-magical paralysis, poison, and sleep effects.
- Living Lighting: Lightning Elementals are immune to electricity damage.
Sense Racial Traits
- Darkvision: Lightning Elementals have darkvision and so can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
Other Racial Traits
- Electric Flash: Lightning Elementals shed normal light in a 20-foot radius and increase the light level by one step for an additional 20 feet beyond that area (darkness becomes dim light and dim light becomes normal light). A lightning elemental does not increase the light level in normal light or bright light.
