Desert Elf

A desert flower has thorns, and yet still they are reached for.

Wise traditionalists who accept the need for growth and unity, but wish to accomplish these things in their own way, desert elves are a reliable ally when given the right moment.   Physical Description: Similar to other elvenkind, desert elves are dextrous and slender humanoids, with their main defining features being their golden eyes and their tanned or dark toned skin. Like other elves they are tall and possess pointed ears, their long lives often leaving them to seem unaging at times. Their hair only comes in pure bright white or a pitch black, often leaving striking appearances to those they meet. Despite this, they often enjoy veiling their faces in many ways, including cloth drapings that hide the entirety of their face, while other use transparent veils. The preference for this, and other long drapped clothing is due to their sensitivity towards the environment and its changes, such as the wind, allowing them to keep track of such changes in the wilderness and weather without overwhelming themselves.

Society: Choosing to live in enclaves within their preferred environment, desert elves are traditionalists who try to teach their community the proper odds and ends of the outside world, but are not true isolationists. Ultimately, it is just difficult to travel to such places. Often having many spiritual and practical leaders in a community and avoiding appointing a set leader, desert elves are a communal people who often trade information and all participate in the growth of their young. Often prefering long, draped clothing or clothing with lots of loose cloth that can be blown by the wind to help be seen in the desert and recognized by others while travelling or on hunts. Desert elves dislike furs and hides, instead often choosing to farm and shear animals for cloth and others materials, with preference for very standout materials, this same desire to stand out and be easily identified in the desert has resulted in a history of large weaponry, with large flaying weapons used in their hunts of desert beasts.   Relations: Due to not many living within general populaces, most others do not have many experiences with desert elves, but are quick to notice their sharper appearance compared to woad elves and different mannerisms. This however also leads to desert elves having no basis for how to perceive or interact with others when on their pilgrimages, leading to noteworthy interactions often.   Beliefs and Religion: Desert elves are more spiritual then they are religious, believing that communication with the world around them and the cosmos, viewing that as a more accurate way of communion. Despite this, they often have a set way to interact with the mysticism they practice, and as such, most desert elves end up having strict practices or wishing to do good to others. However, while they shy aware from more organized religion, desert elves do still believe in a wide variety of cosmic forces that align with the conglomerate church, despite the actual lack of practitioners among them.   Adventurers: Desert elves often head out of their homes on pilgrimages as they come of age to make a name for themselves and gain wisdom from witnessing the outside world. Many are skilled skirmishers and casters, fulfilling multiple roles such as the Swashbuckler or Shaman. Though their naivety can lead to them being dragged into trouble they often do not see coming.
