Anubite (ə-ˈnü-bīt)

An ancestral sentinel dwells on the overlook of the desert expanse.

A desert race of Jackalpeople, rare and highly religious. The Anubite are commonly seen in more southern deserts. Their ancestors were not native to the world, and it is unknown where their people originate from or where their society resides, but many talk of massive temples and great care taken to the dead, with Necromancy outright banned.   Physical Description: Anubites most defining trait are their jackal heads, with long perked ears and what usually appear to be pure white eyes. Though they just have a white iris and pupil making it hard to tell where they are looking and mental state. They are one of the taller races in the world and their lean bodies all for easy chasing or maneuvering in tight areas. Their black furred bodies and claws commonly leave false impressions of a more wild race. Clothing wise, they commonly dress lightly as a desert-dwelling race, but also prefer dressing opulently, having a heavy understanding of dye and rare minerals.

Society: Anubite society is seemingly nomadic besides secret temples made at peaks in desert rock where they gather to talk of the world and rest after long journeys or vision quests. They commonly practice divine magic, and try to bind other races to them via deals and contracts that commonly leave them in charge between the two, but leaves the contracted in a better position.   Relations: Anubites in relation to each other is one of solitude and business, only taking care of their young till they are old enough to fight for themselves, at which point they leave the temple to begin their first journey. While it can be believed Anubites have no lasting relations, they can form bonds with those they meet on their journey, leaving an Anubite at odds with who they consider their true family.   Anubites never enter relations with undead or those related to undeath, immediately being hostile and aggressive to such entities.   Alignment and Religion: Anubites are well known for being stubborn and stuck in tradition, regardless of if they see the good or evil in the world. Most Anubites are Lawful Neutral, desiring to follow their laws and teachings, while also usually following the law of the land. However, they despise Necromancy in all forms regardless of societal view of it, and worship gods who honour the dead.   Adventurers: Anubites naturally make excellent adventurers, though often aren't the kind to offer services to anyone in need, instead offering service as a guardian or bodyguard in return for kindness as a symbol of gratitude. Anubites who do this never break away unless their new master enters relations with undead.

Standard Racial Traits

  • Ability Score Racial Traits: Anubites are strong in body, with wisdom of tradition behind their backs, but are stubborn and stern when and come across as unreasonable. They gain +2 Strength, +2 Wisdom, and -2 Charisma.
  • Type: Anubites are outsiders with the native subtype.
  • Size: Anubites are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Base Speed: Anubites have a base speed of 40 feet.
  • Languages: Anubites begin play speaking Anubite, Common and Celestial. Anubites with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Abyssal, Aklo, Aquan, Auran, Draconic, Infernal, Ignan, Necril, Sphinx, Terran
Feat and Skill Racial Traits
  • Perceptive: Perception and Sense Motive are class skills for Anubites.
  • Wanderer: Anubites receive Endurance as a bonus feat at level 1.
Offense Racial Traits
  • Hatred: Anubites gain a +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against undead because of their instinctual hatred against them when using weapons made of silver or cold iron.
  • Weapon Familiarity: Anubites are proficient with ankus, gandasa, halberds, khopeshs, and klars.
Defense Racial Traits
  • Loyal Guardian: Anubites receive a +2 racial bonus on Will saves against mind-affecting effects.
  • World Marcher: Anubites have a +4 racial bonus on Constitution checks and Fortitude saves to avoid fatigue, exhaustion, and other ill effects from running, forced marches, starvation, thirst, and hot or cold environments.
Movement Racial Traits
  • Jumper: Anubites recieve a +2 racial bonus to Acrobatics and are always considered to have a running start when attempting Acrobatics checks to jump.
  • Desert Stride: Anubites move through non-magical difficult terrain in desert environments at normal speed.
Sense Racial Traits
  • Darkvision: Anubites have darkvision, allowing them to see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
