The Oaken Barn Inn
Heart of Busy Town
This is it. The virtual center of town. Here is where strangers meet, friendships are forged, deals are made and broken. Here is where it all begins. Here is the Oaken Barn Inn. There is only one inn in Norstrolm and yes, it used to actually be a barn. It belongs to Heinrich who is gruff but capable. He lives in the main house with his wife and three youngest children, but someone from the family is always in the Inn. Heinrich's wife Lisa is the cook in the back, and Seanan their youngest son helps her. A lot of what you eat at the Oaken Barn Inn is grown in the gardens here or on Faalador's Farm up the way, and it shows. The food here is great. Local folks often come here just to eat dinner and listen to some music rather than make for themselves. Martha, Heirich and Lisa's oldest daughter who is married does the household work in the public rooms and the guest rooms, while Charlie the eldest boy handles the stables. In the summer when the inn is busiest, you'll see a couple local hands helping out in the stables, and a couple local girls helping in the inn and taproom. Marybeth the eldest daughter living at home runs the taproom/dining room. Destrom Finachre is the local bard who plays in the taproom most nights for tips. Fliander Rustone and Patrice Swanee staff the bar and provide table service for dining and drinks. You can get great ale at the Oaken Barn Inn, and the wine and hard alchohol is not bad either as long as you stay with stuff that's brewed up local. You'll pay top dollar if you want anything exotic. The Inn gets busier and busier every year. Heinrich has been thinking about opening another inn on the other side of town near the Ironhoof Ranch but there's no good existing structure to convert which means he would have to build from scratch and that's expensive. It seems that it might be better to simply expand where he is. So for the forseeable future, until someone else decides to settle down and build a new inn, the Oaken Barn is it. The inn is equipped with seven bedrooms upstairs and a common room, Two of the bedrooms sleep up to four, Two sleep up to six, Three sleep up to eight each. Private bedrooms can be rented out individually on a first come first served basis. The common room is for men only and has four shared beds that sleep three each, or you can sleep on individual pallets on the floor - same price. All room rates include soup and bread for dinner and milk and porridge for breakfast with clean water to drink. Board upgrades are available for a nominal fee. A hot bath can be provided at a separate rate during mid-day off hours. Baths are not available during peak kitchen demand hours. There are two outhouses in the back of the inn. Private room rentals include chamberpot service and hot water to wash up in the morning or evening. Inn linens are NOT included in any room rates, but can be added for a fee if you do not have your own. Laundry service can be provided for a fee if your stay extends for longer than two days, please see Martha for arrangements and availability. Here at the Oaken Barn Inn we strive to provide you with a pleasant experience and restful evening from travel. We hope you enjoy your stay and come back soon to visit whenever your travels bring you to Norstrolm. If you need anything, please let us know and we will do our best to meet your needs.
