Purgatine (Per-guh-teen)

The assassination or purging of a Dark Elf Clan permitted under prescribed rules by Ligeoa. A purgatine must be carried out within 48 hours, and there must be no survivors, or the clan that initiated the purgatine will be sacrificed on the altars of Ligeoa.   The most notable purgatine inthe history of the dark elves to date was the Black Fire Massacre in which over seven thousand dark elves died including the entirety of Clan Iraenox (numbering five thousand). The Black Fire Massacre takes its name from a unique skill of clan Iraenox, the ability to cast the black fire spell. The secret spell for creating and using black fire was lost in the purgatine when all it's practitioners were killed and the Tome of Ghym was lost to the Dark Elves.
