Faran

by Adenshur Kenghym

"You can hear my thoughts?" I asked.   "YES, I CAN HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS," the words sounded in my head slowly and loudly. "YOU SHOULD TRY IT SOME TIME."   "You know, that was really irritating," I thought back at him. "You did not have to do that."   "I know, but I couldn't resist," he replied.
Faran is my familiar companion, a lady killer spirit who manifests as any number of sexy, small, prominently male creatures.   He's quite adament about that.   Donoma Blazingforge, priestess of the Dwarven god taught me the spell to call Faran. Usually I find Faran quite useful to have around, but I believe that he is always viewing me secretly with an unbecoming levity. I am probably going to have to do something about that one day, but I am not the most creative person in the world, and torture seems a little bit of an overreaction to what is, after all, a slight irritant. I suppose am going to have to expand my repertoire of disciplinary actions. Maybe I will start throwing shoes at him when he irritates me. That seems to work for Bughuula.   When I first called Faran, he took on the form of a male blink dog, then an octopus, and an owl. He has been pretty evasive when I ask him if he is missed in his normal world. Something about waiting things out.

His latest escapades with us on the Whispering Plains are in the form of a kestrel, an extremely fast flying, far sighted hunter. No lady friend so far in this form. I am certain this will change soon.   All in all, Faran is a pretty versatile creature, and a reasonable companion.

This creature is a type of slime, but is more typically found in the water than in caverns. It is not a fish and does not require immersion to survive. Faran thought this form would be helpful when we investigated the Catacombs of the First Wave in Portsend. He met a female there G'lgshk who we left behind with Tharidotr and her daughter Eliza.

I think he was being lazy when he suggested this form - lazy or opportunistic. Duchess, Corona's pet is a female blink dog.

So far, all the companion entries I've read have been human or humanoid. I like that you took it a different direction with this shapeshifter being. I also like the idea that he's always got an eye out for the ladies, no matter what form he takes. lol

Yes! he is quite a character - quite sassy and a trial at times. He took on a life of his own and became quite opinionated very quickly no matter how hard I tried to make him behave himself. I think he's a bard in his native dimension... :-)
