Leave not the Shore
Take care ye who sail the open sea
for dark and evil things there be
sleeping so soundly ever so quiet
lest a ship sail pass by it
many a man courageous and tall
sought to make the waves his thrall
but when the monsters came awake
see the mistake the man did make
Some men were pulled down under
loosing all their ill gotten plunder
others peacefully off went to sleep
to disappear before dawn's fog did creep
take not these words as light
or you too will be filled with fright
for off these shores do the monsters roam
for we sail upon their home
Tentacles as thick as a great tree
enraged the great beasties will be
storms the will lift a ship in the air
the angry sea gods needn't be fair
for man is but a tiny fool
when playing in a goddess' pool
they send their spawn, half man half fish
a quick death your last sad wish
Leave not the shore keep it in sight
protection in land's safe harbor might
a great many of dark and shadow
stalk your path sailing to and fro
neither sword nor cunning, divine nor arcane
will save you from the profane
Summary
A legend speaking of terrible monsters lurking far off the shore of Aroa. Ships that stray too far from the land mysteriously disappear. Never to be seen again.
Historical Basis
Many anecdotal stories over the last thousand years exist of ships being pulled underwater by tentacles as thick as trees or entire crews who have vanished overnight. While regions outside of Aroan influence are considered incredibly dangerous, many stories are considered to be not factual and easily conflict with others.
