Journal of Haldroc Thundershield and his account of the Raging Bay

4th Slirod 1530
We set out yesterday. Big secret fleet was finally done. Admiral Windthane had us working in a frenzy these last two year. Finally got us a chance to bring the fight back to them damn Calderians on the seas. Just our luck though, looks like a storms rollin in and we're gonna hit it. No two ways 'bout it. Can't be gettin' too close to the shore or we might be spotted by the enemy. It don't look to bad though. Most uh us'll probably ride it out below decks. It'll give me a chance to win some of me silver back from Jorgen. Been friends with him a long time but he's a damn card cheat.

Damn this storm. Been goin' on fer two days now. Old Windthane actually had us sail back to the shipyard. "Too dangerous" he said. Might be missin' our rendezvous with them fancy Felirs if we don't pop off soon.

Jorgen saved me life today. Admiral had us set out as we couldn't wait up any longer. I swear the storm knew we were leaving as it kicked up again after we set off. Never seen nothing like this over by Dul Darul. Anyway, a wave came out uh nowhere and almost capsized our longship. Jorgen grabbed me 'fore it washed me overboard. Lost a couple good lads though. Wind and waters been behavin' like nothin' ever seen before. They ain't agreein' in the least. Me eyes are probably trickin' me but I think I saw something movin' on the water. Like a shape ridin' uh top a wave.

I couldn't save him. We hit a swell and the ship came down too fast. Most uh us were airborn and I watched the wind just blow 'im right off. Poor Jorgen. I searched the waters around the ship for hours but I couldn't see him anywhere. I'll have to write his wife and let her know. If we ever get out of this storm.

What in the Nine Hells is happenin' Admiral Windthane's as good a sailor as any of us and he was leadin' the fleet out of the bay, but we reached the edge of the storm and we're right back by the dry docks! We haven't gone anywhere in the last seven days! On top of that we five of our sailing ships, four of our longships, and the mast of the Admiral's Warship cracked. Our orders are to make any repairs we can today and we set out along the shore tomorrow. We might be spotted but at least we'll be out of this cursed bay.

This might be me last entry. We set out yessterday along the shore but I swear the storm was watching us. Pulled us right back back into it. Ships were moving sideways as they were being pushed. As a sailor ya understand the difference between a push and a pull. We saw them no too long after. These things, creatures, made of water rolled up onto our decks. We were so stunned at first but we knew what they were about when they grabbed and drowned uh deck hand in its watery chest. I'll never forget the face a man makes as he's drownin' just inches from air. Then some of these others made of the damn wind started tearing at our sails. We started trying to fight back but how can you punch wind or shoot and arrow at water?
Anyway, we're dead in the water just being rocked back an' forth. I don't think I'll be around very long without Jorgen to watch me back. I'm wrapping up this journal as tight as I can and locking it away in me chest. Maybe someone will find it some day and hear our story and remember us.
