Overview

The Sunmino is a traditional Saikai garment that is the official national dress of the Saikai Empire. The Sunmino is a wrapped-front garment with square sleeves of various lengths, and usually a rectangular body. Sunminos are worn with the left side wrapped over the right most of the time. The Sunmino is traditionally worn with a broad sash, and worn with accessories such as sandals and socks.

Manufacturing process

Sunminos are traditionally made from a single bolt of fabric that is determine by size, each one for men and women. The entire bolt is used to make one single sunmino, with the linings being made from bolts of the same width. Some sunmino are custom made for heavy or tall people, as well as members of the beast races. This is done by either joining multiple bolts, weaving custom-width fabric, or using fabrics of non-standard sizes.

History

The history of the Sunmino can be traced back to the founding years of the Saikai Empire, when the nobility embraced a style that was distinctive from what others wore. While it was formerly the most common Saikai garment, the sunmino is usually worn either as a fashionable dress or for more formal engagements. They are usually worn at seasonal festivals as a form of informal attire. The more formal types are worn at funerals, weddings, graduations, and other formal events. Some professions are required to wear a sunmino as apart of their official dress attire.
