The Immortal Flame
Let this flame serve as a reminder; as long as its light sheds across our hall, the Creator shall ever watch over us all.
The Immortal Flame is considered to be the most precious relic of the Holy Order of Paxmal. Said to be a small breath from the mouth of the Creator himself, the Paxmalians rever the flame so much that it is the central piece of the nation's flag. A pilgrimage to the temple of the flame is considered a rite of passage for most Paxmalians and even those outside of the Holy Order that follow The Church of Creation closely. Only the High Priest is permitted into the flame's chamber, and those of high position in the Order do not even know where the Flame is truly located.
There are some that consider the Paxmalians heretical or selfish for possessing the flame, claiming they should share it with the rest of Arkos and that they worship the piece of light rather than the Creator himself. The Priesthood of the Order argues against this, simply stating the Immortal Flame is a gift left by the Creator, a symbol of hope in dark times after The Cataclysm.
According to the High Priests of Paxmal, the Immortal Flame was found well before the founding of the Holy Order, and has been burning ever since the Creator first breathed life into the world. It is a common belief in the Holy Order that while the flame burns, Paxmal is protected by the Creator. If the flame should ever go out, it would signal the end of the world as they know it.
