Rinaur

Literally translated, Rinaur means 'City of Bridges' and indeed, the bridges are the only notable feature, or rather the only feature, of the city. The only permanent structures of the city are the infirmary rooms, built on what the Lanar refer to as the 'mid-level', above the forest floor. While it may seem strange for infirmary rooms to be built above ground-level, this is done because Lanar spend most of their time in the trees. An infirmary at this height means fewer patients have to navigate up or down the trunks.
  Bridges
The bridges of Rinaur are a marvel, but one that has grown over time. Each bridge is different, from the materials and the style to the positioning and the parts of the forest they link. Some are mere rope bridges, renewed every year as wear and weather take hold of them. Others are great stone viaducts, spanning the Harnín at its widest points. They were created by many different architects over the course of some centuries and few were commissioned in the usual sense of the word. Most were put together by a group or groups of Lanar who decided that such a structure would be needed or would be attractive. There are many bridges that have only the most limited of uses, but are considered amongst the greatest of artworks in Rishenlant.
  Notable Bridges:
  Lily Bridge
The Lily Bridge is on the outskirts of Rinaur, and spans a tiny, solitary pool. In late summer, the pool is usually entirely covered in fire lilies and the 400-year-old stone bridge rises above it in pointed arches to a height of ten feet. However, the pond itself is only twenty feet in diameter. The bridge is a favourite playing spot for children during the day and a meeting spot for lovers at night.
  Spider Dance
Spider Dance is the longest bridge in Rishenlant and actually extends far beyond the, roughly-defined, borders of Rinaur. It is also one of the highest bridges and is made entirely of knotted cloth. It stretches from the upper branches of a thousand-year-old tree in the eastern part of Rinaur and winds its way through hundreds of trees, past the north-western reaches of the city. The path of the bridge is not straight and it is made in small sections connecting each tree to the next. For the inexperienced it can be very dangerous, because the cloth sways in the wind and the branches it is tied to are thin. This makes it the ideal training ground for young Lanar, who are coached in the repair and maintenance of the bridge, as well as balancing and climbing. Users of the bridge will often take spare lengths of cloth with them, so that they can replace rotten cloths as they go.

Demographics

Rinaur is the central meeting place for the Rishenlanar. As such, its population is almost entirely itinerant. The majority of Lanar only gather there when the coming-of-age journeys begin in early autumn and even then, many groups do not attend if they have no children participating. A few Lanar reside permanently in the area, usually those tree-whisperers who have formed a particularly strong bond with the local trees, but most Lanar, even the Ítaya, roam the forest randomly, until a festival or governmental demand requires them to meet in the city. As such, the population is very hard to measure, but can be anything between a dozen individuals to several thousand.
