Tulsi Challenge
On the continent Odoa there is a village named Lokpa that is surrounded by farmland. Everything revolves around farming and transporting of goods. Each fall after all the harvests are done and brought in there is a festival, called the Tulsi Challenge.
The Tulsi Challenge is where all the farmers gather together for a competition. The winner of this competition is awarded the ability to grow the speciality plant, Toxic Tulsi. This is a highly sought plant that can only be grown in the Lokpa area. The plant is used as a dye for the color indigo. However, because Toxic Tulsi is a heavy nutrient plant it can be planted in the same spot of land once every two years.
The Tulsi Challenge is an opportunity for a farmer to grow the highly prized crop to boost their profit for a year. Once a farmer has won though they are not allowed to compete again for two years to give their land the chance to regain its nutrients from other plants. The Tulsi Challenge started as a little competition between ten farmers to see who could grow the next Toxic Tulsi. They gathered ten judges from Lokpa who did not farm. There was a set of ten challenges set. In each challenge the judges award points. The judges also do not know who the other judges are. The farmers also do not know who the judges are. The only one who knows who all the judges are is the head governor of Lokpa. At the end of the set ten challenges the farmer with the most points wins. Each year the judges are newly picked and the challenges also change. The challenges may have to do with farming or nothing to do with farming.
The Tulsi Challenge has grown from the original ten farming families to all in the surrounding area. It has also changed into a week-long festival with many flocking to Lokpa to see it. Along with watching the challenges, there are dances, lots of food, arts, crafts and plays put on about past exciting or controversial Tulsi Challenges.
