Lethal strongbark tree leaves
The lethal strongbark tree is a highly toxic tree, of which only one part of the tree is known to not cause trouble, the leaves. The leaves of the Lethal Strongbark tree have been used for a variety of things, such as an ingredient in Deawha sealant, in healing, and even to make baskets and hats.
Now, an elf couple on Shamic Atoll island know of one more effective use for the leaves, a dye. Not just any dye, a specific blue dye that many try to replicate, but to this date, have not been able to. This elf couple, Nym Genlee and Kilyn Genlee, came across this dye by accident. Nym and Kilyn each inherited their dye businesses from their fathers. Nym met Kilyn when he came to the Shamic Atoll islands looking to learn and improve the dye process. Soon, they fell in love and combined their businesses into one.
On one of their ingredient-gathering trips, a friend had asked them to gather leaves of the lethal strongbark tree for baskets. They did, and when they got back, Kilyn took all but two of the leaves to the friend. The two that were left behind, Nym decided to see what, if any, dye the leaves would create. He first boiled the leaves for half a day, then the liquid was cooled. Once it was cooled, he took some white fabric strips and did a dip test. One strip was just dipped, the next sat for 15 minutes, next for 30, next for 1 hour, and lastly one for a day. The results were different shades of blue, ranging from light to a deep dark blue.
After dying a few bolts of fabric in the different shades of blue, Kilyn took them to a noble client of theirs. The noble loved them and bought them all. Soon, more nobles in the area and surrounding islands were asking for the blue fabric.
While Nym and Kilyn have hired some help, they are the only ones who deal with creating the blue dye from the lethal strongbark tree leaves, and they plan to keep it that way for as long as they can.
