History of Argus

    Creation of Argus
    Celestial / Cosmic

The world of Argus and Universal Influence's creation is unknown in details, but can be assumed to have occurred by incomprehensible cosmic means by the existence of the planes, eldrich gods, and other unexplainable phenomena. It has been stated that in communication with ancient beings, the world has existed in recognizable form for over 70 million years, but these claims are dodgy at best.   This period of time is known as the Riftless Ocean Era (R.O.E.)

    Enventus Comet Impact
    Disaster / Destruction

Estimated to have occurred around/over 100,000 years prior, a large meteorite crashed into what's now known as The Enventus' desert. Upon atmospheric entry, it fractured into a cloud of smaller fragments. The largest piece landed where the city-state Rhexilanus would be built. The various other chunks scattered themselves across the desert, with a few landing as far off as the Aster Sea and Loenwess Mountains.

    The Rift
    Era beginning/end

In ancient times, the world was divided between earth and sky. Many races common to today can trace their origins to the mysterious skylands that once floated above Argus for millennia, possibly for millions of years. Most exotic and monstrous races have longer, more well-known history within their cultures, having been the true inhabitants of the continental land masses. This can be assumed as the way of life for most of history, until the cataclysm known as "The Rift" occurred 3599 years ago.

The Ethereal Plane, overlapping all planes, was ruptured and twisted by a force of immense magnitude. Influence of other planes and the cosmic fabric of magic energy itself were pulled in by the immensity of the current Material Plane. Named the same as this event, the Rift opened up in the ocean, splitting the continents and making the Tranen Ocean impossible to cross by ship due to a ceaseless storm wall and unfathomably rough seas. Other such anomalies appeared, but none other to the scale of the Rift.

With this event, the skylands began to fall from the sky in all parts of the world. Across Argus, the ethereal bleed allowed the elemental planes, Feywild, and Shadowfell to seep into Argus seemingly tied to areas of similar composition. Part of the influences brought were deep wells of magic, something that appeared to have been only weakly present before the Rift. Whatever kept them afloat, was not magic as we know it in the present day. With the races forced into conflict, magic became the tool that allowed the world to be conquered and civilization to build.

    Thus began the Arcana Age.

    The Formation of Vaegro
    Founding

The territory at the mouth of the Vaegro river was the most important seaport in Weylon, and had been fought over for control by the many emerging nations. It's said that a native of the region, a halfling man by the name of Braumwick Tiolhard set out to make a plea to each antagonist that turned his home into a warzone. Along his travels his company grew, others endeared to his cause: A copper dragonborn named Lansykes, an aarokocra named Fern Sequoia, an orc named Jorundr Granskog, a wood elf named Kel Aldercrown, and a centaur named Olzeth Starspell.

They would travel from kingdom to nation, dealing with growing threats, stamping out corruption, and making their plea for peace. By some miracle, a resolution was reached from their efforts to unite the desires of each country. Thus Vaegro as we know it today was born. The party of heroes that brought an end to millennia of conflict and a new age of collaboration would be remembered as the Heralds. Each year since, a celebration is held in Vaegro in reverence to them and the creation of the netural zone.

    Bragt/Dun War
    Military: War

The growing empire of Dunvert sought more land to compensate for what was a country with limited resources. Though there was no official export of slave labor, Dunvert was not shy of taking prisoners of war with an offer of "freedom" through serfdom. Seeing weakness in the druidic lands of Bragdt, they launched a quick and fearsome invasion of the large island north of their mainland.    Largely empowered by a martial force, the Dun army met a heavy resistance halfway. The orcs of Bragdt are said to be the first druids of Argus, developing a form of magic adapted through nature. The Duns were at a stalemate, outmatched by arcane talent. Scholars suggest this was the reason for the cultural shift pushed by the government towards a magic-rich empire.

    Acquisition of New Dunvert
    Military action

The territory of West Luqueda was invaded by Dunvert airships that crossed over the Rift in an unprecedented move of aggression. Having been experimenting for decades with making safe passage in a direct path through the maelstroms brewed by the Rift's magical essence, Dunnish battallions made a secret advance upon Luqueda.

Only about 70% of the airships made it to their destination, but the remaining forces were able to easily conquer over half of West Luqueda's area with their element of surprise, gaining control of the entire Northern region. Their forces stretched too thin to proceed, the conflict stalemated just above the capitol city of the West Luquedians. This assault put high tensions on Dunvert's relationship with the entire Western Contintent, as well as with Craye and the city-state of Rhexilanus.

    The Great Dovecliss Storm
    Disaster / Destruction

On the second eve of the annual Bloom Festival, a great storm approached the town from the Aster Sea to the South. The storm caused unseen destruction, the rapid lighting strikes starting a raging fire fueled by ripping gales. When the air finally calmed the result was finally observed. A third of the city was utterly destroyed, the grand central train station suffering a roof collapse.   The work to restore the city to its former glory would be on a scale unseen, starting by clearing the rubble to build anew. Volunteers from neighboring villages, the capital Lilycrest, and a workforce mandated by the Vaegro senate all would begin to clear way. It was during these efforts something unexpected came to light. Among the rubble was the shriveled corpse of a Rophidel sorcerer. With this, formerly dashed rumors of combat, and even a massive humanoid figure taking flight, formed into an accusation: Rophidel had used the storm as cover for an invasion of unknown purpose.   Mivria offered to return the fallen magician in exchange for a disclosure of the reason he was found dead on their soil. Rophidel denies this allegation, choosing to stop the export of any information in an extreme measure by closing their railway and calling the Vaegro senate into recess. To many, this all but guarantees their guilt in the situation. To what extent their involvement in the destruction in Dovecliss was, is currently unknown. Many countries are calling for trade to open once more, namely for Bragt which is cut off from exporting salt and stockfish by rail.
