Mornen Highlands

The Mornen Highland Clans are made up almost entirely of halflings, though there are some populations of gnomes and dwarves. The clans are very proud family groups who compete with each other near-constantly, though this doesn’t often lead them to war with each other. If anything, their battles are often seen as sport to be had to prove the superiority of your family, or mornda. To help organize this, there is a yearly moot held in the central village when all the clan leaders convene on regional topics and also host games of strength and cunning. To the winners go the bragging rights for that year, as well as small prizes geared mostly towards weaponry and armor.   While the clans take great pride in their warriors, they are not a militaristic nation, instead focusing on respecting nature and tending farmland. Culturally, the clans live very close to nature and see omens in how the grass shifts in the wind or in how a cloud forms into various shapes across the sky. Druids and clerics of nature deities are therefore quite common, as well as rangers scouting the borders of their land. They are used to fighting in open fields and hilly terrain, employing both ranged weapons and spears to make up for their small reach and stature.   The clans build their villages in the hills of northeastern Argonen, in the land across the Vermat River, though they do have a woodland village on the island of Primsap, located where the river meets the Horlon Sea. There are also stories of hidden villages built underground or within the hills themselves, though no one has ever seen these rumored settlements. Visitors to the Highland Realm are often met with stern gazes before being offered a hearty pint so long as they intend no harm, something the clansmen are quick to establish.
