Isles of Tann

Off the western coast of Argonen lie the collective Isles of Tann. Three large islands make up the majority of the Isles landmass, but there are multiple smaller islands just off the coast of the larger landmasses. While to others the Isles are considered a collective nation, the various inhabitants would be the first to tell you they’re not; in fact, some would even be gravely insulted to hear such an insinuation. Due to this, there are no “Tannians” per se, but rather individuals from the various tribes that inhabit the islands. There are eight tribes in total who inhabit the main three islands of Tann, Heod, and Golm: the Zadish, Lepish, Tobish, and Pankish of Tann, the Freesh, Gomnards, and Noths of Heod, and the Lanigs of Golm. These tribes are fiercely competitive with each other, though not to the point of open hostility.   Society on the Isles is highly structured due to the relatively strict culture of the tribe members. Every individual has a specific role within their tribe and understands their place within it. While structured, social hierarchies are fluid and are subject to change generation to generation; competition breeds innovation within Isles of Tann and that boils down to its inhabitants. In constant bids to outdo each other, tribe members and chiefs will constantly look for new ways to do things or commodities to secure in order to come out on top. One of the best examples of this is in the path to becoming High Chieftain within a tribe. Much of the beginning phases of it involve seeking new knowledge and bringing it back to the tribe. Granted, this usually involves obtaining knowledge or technology developed by another tribe since most tribe members never leave the Isles. If any did, however, they would have a severe advantage over many of their more localized counterparts thanks to the rapid advancement of the mainland nations, especially with their proximity to the Draconic Empire, which makes the occasional excursion into the tribes’ lands.   The vast majority of the tribes are comprised of elves, both Wood, High, and Drau, but almost any creature of Fey origin can be found among the tribes of the Tann, though in smaller numbers than their Elven counterparts.
