Redbath
Redbath is a large city on the edge of Lake Marior, a lake large enough to be considered a freshwater sea. The elite live in luxurious comfort along the shore, in great sprawling estates of stone with green lawns and well-watered gardens. The slums, furthest from the water, are stumbling ramshackle mud-brick buildings nestled among the hills. Drinking water from the lake is controlled by the elite, so the poor depend on rainfall for the most part in order to survive. To either side of the city, the hills which circle the edges of town become towering cliffs, inaccessible and deadly to any poor fool attempting to climb down to the lake below, although rumors persist of secret paths or tunnels through the rock.
The Marketplace, located in the heart of Redbath, is home to merchants and traders from near and far. The market, built of mud-bricks, is shaded by netting twenty feet high and is, for the most part, otherwise open to the elements. It is a maze of brightly-painted wooden stalls and dusty tents, peppered by the occasional open or curtained doorway into mud-brick buildings at the edges of the large courtyard. Merchants squabble between themselves and call out their wares for all to hear, inviting marketgoers to spend their coin.
The Marina sits among the grand houses of the elite and is where Redbath's fleet of fishing boats is kept and maintained. The marina is always a hub of activity, with fisherfolk coming and going at all hours. While only the rich have free access to fresh water, scores of fishermen pay exorbitant fees in return for access to the marina and the lake.
The Mines are Redbath’s main draw and the source of the city's biggest export: copper ore. There are three distinct mining companies of varying size currently operating in and around the city, which will be expanded upon below.

Industry & Trade
Redbath's biggest draw and main export are the copper mines. Redbath has three distinct mining companies, each very different in values.
- Horgot Incorporated is the smallest of the three mines. The company has been struggling since a cave-in two years ago rendered much of their main shaft unsafe to work in.
Tolfin Minery controls nearly half of the copper ore market. A fair few miners are killed each year in mining accidents due to unsafe working conditions, but the pay is good and the work is fine, and with the economy as it is, one takes work where they can get it and is thankful for it.
- Garron Industries pride themselves on quality above all else. Their ore, according to them, is nearly twice as valuable as that from their competitors.
Infrastructure
Redbath is home to a Marina, from which scores of fisherfolk sail upon Lake Marior.
Architecture
In Lakeside, the elite live in grand stone-clad homes by the shoreline, with sprawling estates of green lawns and well-watered flowerbeds. These estates are built in neoclassical style; imposing and grand, but also cold.
Leaving the richest neighbourhoods by the main road, one finds themself in the Marketplace. The Market is shaded by netting twenty feet high and is, for the most part, otherwise open to the elements. It is a maze of brightly-painted wooden stalls and dusty tents, peppered by the occasional open or curtained doorway into mud-brick buildings at the edges of the large courtyard.
Past the market is Coppertown, the city's industrial complex. This is where copper ore is mined, processed, weighed, and sold. Only a few actually live in Coppertown, it might as well be the slums in terms of finery and all the land is owned by the mining companies. The buildings here are, like Lakeside, mostly made from stone, although nowhere near so elaborate or decorative.
Furthest from the water, the slums of Redbath are low, shabby huts huddled together en masse, made of red mud-bricks with thatch roofs and tin chimneys poking up at varying heights. There are no proper streets in the slums, just a maze of alleyways and porches just big enough to stand on and walk between.
Geography
Redbath lies on the southern shore of Lake Marior, in a wide break between the Red Cliffs. Those cliffs encircle the lower half of Lake Marior, separating the lake from the Ukotu Mountains in the west and the Teloran Desert in the east. The lake is perhaps better classified as a freshwater sea; it is certainly large enough.
Just south of Redbath is the Falinor Wood, the forest for which the area gets its name.
The city is built upon a flood plain between the cliffs;
Natural Resources
Redbath's main draw are the copper mines.
