Mixed-Blood Humans

Mixed-blood humans are those with ancestors from two or more of the primary humanoid races. While those without mixed blood will use the names of their races to describe themselves, mixed-blood humans typically refer to themselves simply as humans, or by their ethnic ancestry. If a person is described as human without a specific race mentioned, they are assumed to be of mixed blood.   Depending on their ancestry, humans can be tall or short, pale or dark. Their lifespans are closer to that of their shorter-lived parent. Depending on the difference, for example a human who is half Eldran and half Selken, they may age more slowly than the shorter-lived parent, but will still be closer in lifespan to them than to the longer-lived parent.   Physiology is determined by ancestry, as is magical ability. Someone of elvish descent is more likely to be a mage, and humans of Selken descent often have better night vision than most. A human's facial features and coloring is the best indicator of what races they are descended from, as unless they greatly resemble a parent or grandparent they will have a mix of features from multiple races. Any specifics about mixed-blood humans are entirely dependent on their ancestry.   These humans may face discrimination from pure-blooded races, or even others of mixed blood if their ancestry is of the wrong kind. Such discrimination varies from nation to nation and culture to culture. Other difficulties may arise if genetic traits from multiple races clash. Their have been cases of human mages with one or more Aerien ancestors struggling with control, or even suffering failing health due to their own magic.   Mixed-blood humans have existed since the earliest days of the Integration Era. Some are more attached to one of the races of their ancestry, and others feel that they have no place with them and choose to make their own way in the world. By the time Kyrr was founded (by humans of Aerien, Nerisien, and elvish descent), mixed-blood humans were more prevalent than any of the other humanoid races. In the modern era, they are in the majority, with more mixed-blood humans in the world than all of the other humanoid races combined.
