The Fae Nexus / The Faewyld

The Faewyld is a strange place. You know you have left it, when you stop running into things which make no sense anymore.
— unknown traveler of the realms behind the veil

"Why do you call it the Nexus, Master? Isn't the Counterrealm the place from which one can reach almost every Faerealm? I always thought the Faewyld is just another Wyld, like the Everice or the First World"   " Listen Roan. It is indeed true that wilderness makes up a huge part of the Nexus, that is... on our side of it. The one you reach when approaching it from the Counterrealm. Hence it was erroneously categorized as a Wyld for a very long time. But consider this: The Counterrealm only provides access to further Fae Realms in certain places, and only when these places have a strong representation of a core concept on Ardu. One of the countless realms of fire can only be accessed in places, where fire has a strong presence in the real world too, for example. Like near the Volcanoes of the Shearwind massive.   From the Nexus though... you can reach places which have no place in the real world at all. It allows to reach utterly mundane places, but also places where sense and purpose seem to vanish. Hence we shall not call it Faewyld furthermore, which only reinforces that misconception you fell for."   "So the Nexus is the realm that lies in the middle of all Fae realms and we are just but one of them?"   "Tell me, Roan, in a boundless space of endless possibilities.... where is the center? Surely our world is special because we have the Veil that protects us..."   "Yeah... true... but if the Far realms are so boundless... couldn't there be more which have a Veil?"   "...Oh...hmm..."

"Will... will we get him back?"   Oleanna asked and knelt over the slumped body of her husband Gerdem. He... was breathing still, which was good. But he was also stammering about "A bouncy curtain made of Time and Space" and "the inability to know if he was heading for the right direction because he already knew exactly where he was" and other nonsense.   Akka the Norn knelt next to Oleanna and gently held her friends hand to calm her down.   "I... I don't know. We are lucky he even came back Oli. He was in the Nexus for almost 10 days. I... don't know if there still IS a mind that could attempt to get back to us. We.. can only hope that he fights through the delusions now..."
— Akka the Norn and Oleanna ne-Galen musing about the fate of Oleannas Husband Gerdem na-Galen, whose spirit had ventured too far into the Nexus during one of his mind journeys.

The Faewyld is NOT a wyld

Erroneously, many laymen still count the Feywyld to the wylds, for, when entering from the counterrealm, one usually enters it and arrives in its wilder parts when approaching from Ardu's counterrealm. This classification has been a common misclassification for many centuries. The name Feywyld as is the name of the Bexus in the Vernacular does not help clearing up the misconception.   Experience Fae travelers and sages however have adopted the name "Fae Nexus" for it, which also more closely relates to its well connected place within the plethora of worlds behind the veil.   Yet old habits die slowly, and the common man still often refers to it by the name Faewyld or the even older Feywyld that was in use during the Ring Empire.
