WorldEmber 2020 - Final Recap!

Late Recap Incomming

Overview

First revelation, WE is a lot of fun. The community is great, the support is awesome, loved hanging out in the discord server with all the amazing people. I only started writing around July, and the community has been essential to my growth as a writer- I truly could not have improved without them, so thank you all <3

Stuff I did:

  • I wrote around 26.3k, smashing through what expectations I had!
  • I completed 29 articles, about 5 of them which were on my original pledge (woops)
  • Somehow ended up in the top 10 more likes (which, pardon my language, is fucking crazy)
  • And even crazier, a bunch of my articles ended up in the top 10 of a few categories
  • Cherry on the top, Interarcanum reached 50 followers!! How crazy is that!!

Shakiraverse

Halfway in december, probably possessed by Shakira herself, I went to my chapter and asked if anyone would be down to make a world based on Shakira. For reasons still unknown to me (but to my absolute delight) Naelin accepted, and thus the Shakiraverse was born. Its been awesome working with him, I can't say there's anything better than writing about crazy things with someone as invested as you are.

The Anvilite Community Awards

Organised by the very awesome Teyvill, the ACA seek to celebrate works written in 2020. It is entirely run by community members, with categories sponsored by community members (myself sponsoring two). Now that WE is over, I'm looking forward to reading through all the submissions!

If you haven't submitted yet, hurry! Deadline is January 5th!

Favourite Articles From Others

The Void Between

Ok, so the first one isn't even an article, its a full on world. Created by Dylon, The Void Between has been my number one WE obsession. Its fascinating, and every new article just leaves me dying to know more. I 100% recommend you check it out, even if sci-fi isn't your thing. I know it isn't mine, but this world is just so human you can't help but get pulled in.

Remember

Written by the very very talented Wendy, this is just a fascinating article. I love the detail that goes into it, how it ties in to traditions and beliefs, and its name only just blows my mind. Though to be honest, Wendy's entire world is just filled with imagination, and every new article is more inspiring than the last.

Midas Touch

Reading Siloandra's work this WE was quite inspiring as a fellow DM, the inclusion of plot hooks especially. This condition is among my favourite by her, because first of all how cool is it, and second of all there are endless ways to use such a condition.

A Massacre

This was, honestly, a chilling article to read. I really enjoyed it, as I enjoy all of Caitlin's work, but this one especially really got to me. Also the placeholder skeletons are just perfect for bother the vibe and give a really nice feeling of the world.

Spiders and Love

The featuring of an article by the marvellous Dr Emily should come as a surprise to now one. We know her, we love her, and we love her writing. This article is no different, a beautiful myth, both familiar and tragic. Also, mandatory shout-out for being such a cool and awesome person throughout WE!!

What Now?

Anyone who's been around WA knows who Q is. His new world Ithekshem, created right before WE, is fascinating and amazing. There is so much to discover and play with, and this article is a wonderful example of just how dangerous a place can be when gods, mortals and monsters all walk the same lands.

Age of Grey

Once again, recommending a whole world to yall. I discovered Revyera's colourful world right at the beginning of WE, and the story interwoven across articles really pulled me in. Its such a creative, unique world, and I can't wait to read more about it!

Do Not Fear

This article by Naelin illustrates such an interesting profession. I'm a sucker for articles like that, and culturally significant professions especially with a link to death is something right up my alley. I'm not too familiar with all of Naelin's world, but I'm hoping to get around to making a deep dive when exams finally end!

Favourite Articles I've Written

A Quiet Pond

This was a surprisingly hard article for me to write, but I have to say I'm really pleased with the result. Prompts are always a challenge because they force me to write about things I haven't thought about, or that are out of my comfort zone (looking at you Massacre of Fleury) but I'm quite proud of how this one turned out to be!

Divine Poets

Honestly, I'm a huge fan of these guys. The idea of these mortals, chosen by gods for their eloquence, who become their messengers through art and music and poetry is just something I really love, and I have to say I'm quite glad I got the idea :')

Beauty and Rest

While definitely not my most popular god, Kirïal is probably my favourite. There's something about him that just gets me- he's the god who remembers the forgotten, who picks flowers and looks at sunsets. He loves life the way I want to love it.

Lost Myth

This is probably the piece of writing I'm proudest of. The formatting, the music, the story itself- I was reluctant to write it at first (because I already had a version of that myth), but in the end I'm really happy it exists. This will forever be my baby.

Lets Write Plots!

So, this was my first time writing a plot (with intent to publish it)! It was hard to come up with a format for this that summed up what info I wanted to put in there, but in the end I feel like I came up with something I'm quite satisfied with.

Ah, Yes, Hips

You've heard of it, its Shakiraverse. This is the idea that started it all. I started writing this article with no idea of where it was headed, just let the words out and watch where they took me. Turns out, the answer was a mysterious entity known as Old Man Jenkins'.
