Universal History

The master chronology documenting the entire history of the known universe through four Singularity Cycles.

! ATTENTION HUMANS !

Please note that this timeline is measured in cycles rather than years, and note the difference between the time unit "cycle" and the proper term "Cycle" as a specific kind of temporal era.

First Dawn

19.22 billion BGU - 12.68 billion BGU

The start of linear dimensional spacetime occurred at the instant the universe's seedling singularity began its spontaneous expansion. Shortly after the chaotic formation and death of the first stars, elements far heavier than hydrogen and helium became available for planetary formation. In a distant galaxy whose identity has long been lost, the planet known only as Genesis bore the first signs of life - the very first living organisms in the entire history of the universe.   The stage was set for the First Cycle.

Untold eons ago, on the long-lost planet of Genesis, protocells were formed by the entropic behavior of hot water pooling in the recently-cooled volcanic rock. This was the first sign of life in the early cosmos, and would herald the start of a chain reaction cascading across tens of billions of cycs: the Singularity Cycles.

First Cycle

12.68 billion BGU - 10 billion BGU

Primal Eons

The very first Singularity Cycle began roughly 6.5 billion cycles into the universe's history, with the rise of living organisms on the planet Genesis. Approximately a billion cycles later, the Primal civilization formed and took flight into the void, spreading across their galaxy and advancing their knowledge of the cosmos to the point of ascendance. They developed alone, and ascended to their Drifter stage without ever knowing that any other beings existed or would exist. They were the first Singularity, but they left nothing behind to help the next cycle except echoes.   Dates are approximated due to archaeological imprecision.

As the Primals made their slow preparations to attain their final stage, they decided to leave a series of messages behind for any beings who would come after they had left the universe behind. Using their extremely advanced technology, they recorded the story of their civilization in the cosmic microwave background, and left it to ricochet around the universe for the rest of time.

Second Dawn

10 billion BGU - 8.5 billion BGU

For a few billion cycs, the cosmos was quiet, with new planets forming and old ones dying out into dust. The new wave of abiogenesis marked an increase in the commonality of life across the universe, and eventually the start of a new Cycle.

Third Dawn

2.6 billion BGU - 1 million BGU

After the Dreamers abandoned the Orranysis galaxy, there was a long period of time where civilizations in the galaxy were sparse and fleeting, never achieving more than the Asterion phase before collapsing under their own weight. During this time, life arose on a certain lost planet somewhere in the Noble Arm, near what is now the Twymin Nebula, and roughly one billion cycles later began to form on Thyor as well, setting the stage for the modern age of the galaxy.

    Aehr-Thyoran Contact
    Era beginning/end

On a small, swampy world in the Regal Arm of the Orranysis galaxy, a species of small, bipedal electrotelepaths rose to sapience. They spoke no language; instead, the Thyorans communicated through a language of pure thought. They built a humble civilization that worked as one with nature, and eventually reached the stars.   At around the same time, another species of sophont was beginning to develop as well. On a planet lost to the mists of time, a civilization of humanoid sophonts evolved and became starborne: the Aehr, some of the kindest beings the universe has ever known. And several thousand years after their rise to the stars, one of their expeditions found its way to a small, swampy world in the Regal Arm.   Aehr-Thyoran first contact was a near-perfect emulation of that of the Aeons untold eons earlier: pure, cosmic joy at the recognition of intelligence, of compassion, of technological prowess and unabashed curiosity - of true sapience.   Thus was the Galactic Democratic Federation first forged, and the seed of the New Unity planted.
