The Lie From Below Player Primer
Welcome to the campaign The Lie From Below. Before we begin there is a handful of things that the players need to know and restrictions that have been set in place.
The alignment combinations Lawful Good and Chaotic Evil have been prohibited for use by the PCs. These alignment combinations are both polarizing and the PCs will face many conflicts and moral decisions throughout the campaign. This will also help in party cohesion as all the PCs will be able flexible enough to make decisions and work together given the situations they will encounter.
Divinity has abandoned the mortal plane, and as such divine spell casting or the utilization of divine power is futile. Clerics, Paladins, and others have been left without power across the world and will be widely unavailable for use by both the PCs and the world around them.
This campaign is deadly. Like actually deadly. The world of Arcturus IV is horrific and chaotic. Annihilation stalks all sentient beings behind every twist and turn of their lives. The great cities of old have been left in ruins, and beasts of all manner of speaking run rampant across the lands. Wandering off in to the wilderness without preparation is fatal without doubt. Not only for the PCs, but the world around them.
Technological advances have lead to the creation of many devastating weapons, and the commonality of these weapons is as impressive as it is dangerous. Martial and magical combat alone will very rarely be enough to overcome conflicts and properly utilizing both the resources available and ingenuity is paramount to success. Intrigue, subterfuge, manipulation, and diplomacy are all tools expected to be utilized in the survival of the PCs and their ambitions.
The PCs have all started as goblins or similar races without access to meaningful equipment or resources. They also will start enslaved, and collared with a device that suppresses their magical capabilities. The first real hurdle of the PCs will be finding a place for themselves as they begin their lives anew in Sore Wat, and finding a way to advance their station from the lowest of the low.
There is no global currency in the world of Arcturus. Most trade is done with commodities, and other items. Organizations often issue promissory notes to their members, and these notes hold no real value outside of that organization or their region. Any starting capital the PCs have should be converted in to promissory notes or tokens of some kind equal to the respective value of the starting capital.
In the world of Arcturus IV there is hardly any place for perfection, and as such the PCs have also taken character flaws that will impact them and their choices regularly. Pestilence of all kinds is widespread and easily contracted by the foolhardy. Widespread use of magic may also call out to those from beyond and any impetuous mage my find himself in an particularly intrusive situation.
