Hans
Hans used to be a peasant of Balvarin. His life was never atypical. He tilled the field on his family's farm. He doesn't recall much about his past, from what he can remember, his family was a typical nuclear family. He had an older brother, who he remembered being a man of great strength.
The Singing Bone happens; Hans being the younger brother, but he has no memory of this event past the boar who terrorized farms.
The only difference being his body is never buried. It's left to its own devices. Then his memory fades in with Hans having the black spear, his bones being wrapped in his cloth wrap. (Anything that happens between then and now can be left up to you Zach) I assume he also has some years of him accruing equipment, like his 'armor' etc, just to keep himself safe
Hans joins the service as he can't go anywhere else. Most common folk would attack him on sight, yet he feels 'chained' to this country by a sense of patriotism and loyalty. He remembers being very content on his farm. He also believes in standing up for the little guy, having a particular fondness for farming communities.
This encapsulates his decision to find security in the arms of brotherhood, in the army concealing his undead physique to try and keep his charade going for as long as possible, to hopefully find a group so he can take his hood off. So he follows the local militia(military whatever) and finds himself at the barracks that his platoon occupies. And surprisingly enough, no one checks his papers, identification, anything. So he takes a bunk and is prepared to serve King and Country.
